PLDT’s wireless unit Smart Communications Inc. (Smart) and its social action arm PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF) have donated over 40 solar lamps and generator sets to Olangohanons still reeling from the devastation of Super Typhoon Odette three months on. Smart and PSF’s provisioned solar lamps and gensets aim to help restart livelihood for affected residents in Cebu’s island of Olango, where life has yet to return to normal in the final weeks of restoration of toppled electric poles and repair of severed wires.

PLDT’s wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) has released the shortlist for the final selection round of Smart Prepaid Innovation Generation (InnoGen) 2.0. From the previous pool of 40 teams, Smart has advanced the top 25 teams to Phase 3 of the program. “Phase 2 gave our innovators a ‘mega’ experience with lectures aimed at firming up their innovative solutions. What awaits next is a ‘giga’ experience that will scale up their ideas into working prototypes,” said Stephanie Orlino, Head of Stakeholder Management at PLDT and Smart.

PLDT’s wireless unit Smart Communications, Inc. extends additional support to communities in Central Visayas severely affected by super typhoon Odette. The city of Cebu, the municipality of Compostela in northern Cebu, and the municipalities of Loboc and President Carlos P. Garcia in Bohol have recently received generator sets from Smart to help provide electricity to typhoon-hit areas still without commercial power.
