Movie Review: Friends With Benefits

Friends With Benefits

I got invited along with other fellow movie bloggers last night for the special screening of “Friends With Benefits” held at the mini theater (or preview room) of Columbia Pictures Philippines in Shangri-La Mall EDSA.

When I first saw the trailer, I am excited to see it in full. I was anticipating for this movie for two reasons: the movie talks about friends with benefits a.k.a. SEX, and its lead is the super hot Mila Kunis!

When I first saw Mila Kunis at “Black Swan” playing villain to Natalie Portman, I thought to myself that this girl will do great in Hollywood. She plays the almost perfect sexy hot bitch from that movie and become the opposite (but still sexy and hot) in “Friends With Benefits”.

Mila Kunis’ love interest or should I say, friend with benefit in this movie is Justin Timberlake. With so many movies he has appeared (Shrek, The Love Guru, Social Network, to name a few), it seems hard to believe that he was once a dork-y member of the boyband N’Sync. Although Justin Timberlake made a decent and successful solo career, it seems his top priority now is acting. And with “Friends With Benefits”, he made me realize that he is indeed an actor now.

Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis plays the roles of liberal singles Dylan and Jamie (a young female headhunter), respectively, who think it will be easy to add sex to their friendship, but they discover that getting physical always leads to complications. Despite an attraction to each other, both realize they are everything they have been running from in a relationship and decide to see what happens if they leave emotion out of it and keep it strictly physical. The movie was directed by Will Gluck, who happens to be the same director of another funny sex-comedy film “Easy A” which coincidentally includes Emma Stone playing bit role.

According to Justin Timberlake, “Our characters meet each other in that time where they’ve both recently split up from other relationships and we’re both in that headspace where we kind of want to just be single.”

Mila Kunis, on the other hand, saw her character Jamie as someone who “believes in true love and believes that Prince Charming is out there and is desperately seeking that. Jamie doesn’t wear her heart on her sleeve, though. She’s a typical New Yorker,” laughs Kunis.

By the way, I was informed that this movie will be shown without cuts and was approved by the MTRCB as PG 13. If you have seen “Love and Other Drugs”, you will fall in love to “Friends With Benefits” too. Although this movie comes with so many hot scenes (only, it’s Justin Timberlake who shows too much skin) and memorable quotes and punch lines.

Their tandem is also flawless and I can’t complain with their acting. “Friends With Benefits” you should watch with your friends, your current squeeze and maybe, your very own friends with benefits or FuBu.

And if you ain’t convinced how hot this movie is, check this hot make-out scene of Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis:
