Events Coverage: Greenwich Idol Overload Challenge 2012

American Idol Season 10 finalist Thia Megia arrived in Manila yesterday and was the special guest to the recently concluded “Idol Overload Challenge” held at the Glorietta Activity Center in Ayala Malls, Makati City.

The event, organized by Greenwich Pizza and StarWorld, is a special tie-up in promoting the latest American Idol season wherein the winner will be sent to Hollywood to watch the grand finale of the world’s number reality singing contest. The event is hosted by DJs Gino and Fran of RX 93.1 FM.

Two of Greenwich endorsers, the super hot Solenn Heussaff and her Greenwich love team Lloyd Zaragoza also known as Bruno. Both performed song numbers during the event, and although I’ve known Solenn Heussaff as a singer also (she just released her debut album under MCA Music Inc. and regularly performs at Party Pilipinas), it was Lloyd Zaragoza who surprised me because he can actually hit a note!

Lloyd Zaragoza or Bruno plays the wacky and astig barkada with a soft heart in the Greenwich commercial led by John Lloyd Cruz. I’ve only known him in that Greenwich TVC and I didn’t expect him to be a good singer as well. He also performed alongside his singer-friend Brenan Espartinez where both gave a good version of Fareast Movement‘s (featuring Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic) hit single Rocketeer.

For the Idol Overload Challenge, contestants gone thru a series of games like guessing the title of the song, naming some of American Idol contestants, singing the missing lines, among others, to make it on the final round. Although I find the challenges too easy, some of the contestants were clueless with the answers. I can’t believe one contestant didn’t even get to name at least one American Idol contestant, or doesn’t know the title of Aerosmith‘s “Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing“. But despite all that, one lucky contestant, Ronald Echon, managed to get thru and eventually won the competition in the end.

He was awarded by Mr. Luis Velasco, Greenwich Marketing Director; Mr. Jude Turcuato, Fox International Channels Philippines Director; and Thia Megia with Lloyd Zaragoza.

But the event wont be complete without Thia Megia lending some of the songs she popularized in her American Idol stint. She performed 3 awesome performances to the delight of her Filipino followers. Thia Megia is a wonderful singer and she is actually nice in person. She have that powerful voice and can be sweet at the same time.

Although there aren’t plans yet of her staying longer in the Philippines, she reveals that an album which will be released in the states is on the works and that she is currently busy touring. Check out our video coverage of her live performance and exclusive interview with Thia Megia below (editor’s note: sorry we have to delete some of the videos due to copy right issues or restrictions).

Special thanks to Ms. Cookie Cabrera, Greenwich’s PR and Corp. Affairs Manager for the invitation to cover this event.
