Broadway aerial choreographer and former world-class gymnastics specialist Christopher Harrison came to the Philippines to introduce AntiGravity Yoga, the routine that has gained a tremendous following in over 52 locations worldwide.

AntiGravity Yoga combines traditional yoga poses with elements from aerial arts, dance, gymnastics, Pilates and calisthenics. With this technique one can obtain all of the benefits of yoga without the impact or strain required to achieve the same movements and positions on the ground. Using the principles of gravity to achieve physical and mental decompression, it allows practitioners to get in shape and realign their body in a playful environment.

The philosophy of AntiGravity Yoga takes into consideration the two meanings of the word anti-gravity. The first is to “defy the laws of physics” and secondly, to take the stance “against graveness,” assuring that classes are fun!

AntiGravity Yoga utilizes a silk hammock apparatus invented by Mr. Harrison called the AntiGravity Hammock. It is a structural fabric, rated to safely hold over 2000 pounds, connected from two overhead points and acts like a swing or soft trapeze. The performers in Team AntiGravity work in the AntiGravity Hammock from 20 feet off the ground. He lowered it to waist height to make it accessible to all and discovered that by distributing one’s weight between the hammock and the floor, a myriad of unique exercises were possible.

Worried that you might not be too flexible or physically fit? “Anyone can do AntiGravity Yoga! It is a good routine even for those who are not flexible because your poses are supported by a silk hammock. We’re sure you’ll keep coming back for more,” adds Carbonell.

Beyond Yoga is the country’s premiere studio offering yoga and dance classes. Beyond Yoga is located at the 3rd floor, II Terrazzo, Tomas Morato corner Scout Madrinian Street, Quezon City. Learn more about Beyond Yoga and AntiGravity Yoga by visiting www.igobeyondyoga.com
