Got the chance to see the Philippine premiere of The Adventures of Tintin (also known as The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn) last night (November 28) at the iMAX Theater in SM North EDSA.

The Adventures of Tintin is a 2011 American performance capture 3D film based on a series of comic book of the same title created by Belgian artist Hergé (Georges Remi). The movie is based on three of the original comic books: The Crab with the Golden Claws (1941), The Secret of the Unicorn (1943), and Red Rackham’s Treasure (1944) directed by Steven Spielberg, produced by Peter Jackson, and written by Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish.

Although I am aware of Tintin’s character, it is my first time to actually know about his story. I know the comic book and the cartoon series and I am familiar with his original look that’s why when Spielberg decided to transform him to 3D animation, I was a bit unhappy with the result because he looks rather old for his age. Below is the original look of Tintin and other cats of the original animation:

But while watching the movie, I started to like Tintin. The animation is simply magnificent. It looks so real that sometimes I felt it’s no longer an animated movie! But that’s because they filmed this one just like how they created Gollum – a character from “The Lord of The Rings” Trilogy. I saw a clip of how it was created and I was amazed even more. Here it is:

It’s nice to see that they somewhat stick with the story from the book and really made it comes alive from pages to pages. Spielberg and Jackson did an excellent job in giving life to a classic comic book. What amaze me even more is the action-packed scenes and how detailed the special effects they took to make it more realistic. It also have the right amount of humor that I am pretty sure kids and adults will love. And may I add that Tintin’s dog Snowy is the best dog ever!

Jamie Bell provided the voice of the young journalist Tintin and I think he gave justice to it. I also like Daniel Craig‘s voice as Ivan Ivanovitch Sakharine and Red Rackham, Sakharine being the descendant of Red Rackham, the pirate who attacked the Unicorn, the ship captained by Sir Francis Haddock (played by Andy Serkis). Over-all, the movie is entertaining. You will surely love to see Tintin’s next adventure and I am one of those who would love to see the sequel.

Best to enjoy The Adventures of Tintin in 3D and iMAX starting December 23. Released and distributed by United International Pictures through Solar Entertainment Corp.
