The world’s deadliest CIA operatives are inseparable partners and best friends until they fall for the same woman. Having once helped bring down entire enemy nations, they are now employing their incomparable skills and an endless array of high-tech gadgetry against their greatest nemesis ever – each other.
Sounds like a serious movie? The answer is a BIG no! “This Means War” is actually an action-packed comedy film starring Chris Pine, Tom Hardy and Reese Whiterspoon.
You’d definitely enjoy watching this movie because of the exciting action sequences (since two of the actors plays SPY) and comedy because it’s funny how this best buddies turned enemies to win Reese Whiterspoon’s affection.
This Means War presented enough witty romance set-ups and cathartic comedy moments that moviegoers go laughing about. Tom Hardy and Chris Pine have great chemistry and not only shown how great they are in terms of action scenes but also how lovable they are when it comes to romantic scenes with Reese Witherspoon. You’ll also love Chelsea Handler in this film because she gave notorious punch lines that you’ll cry laughing and yet you will still ask for more!
Here’s the movie’s synopsis:
CIA agents and best friends FDR Foster (Chris Pine) and Tuck Henson (Tom Hardy) are deployed to Hong Kong to prevent international criminal Heinrich (Til Schweiger) from acquiring a weapon of mass destruction, but the mission goes awry, resulting in the death of Heinrich’s brother Jonas (Clint Carleton) and Heinrich swearing revenge against them. For their protection, their boss, Collins (Angela Bassett), assigns them to desk duty upon returning to America.
FDR is a womanizer, whose cover is that he’s a cruise ship captain, while Tuck, who presents himself as a travel agent, has an ex-wife, Katie (Abigail Spencer), and a son, Joe (John Paul Ruttan). Tuck is a hopeless romantic who decided to join an online dating service where he met Lauren Scott (Reese Witherspoon), a product testing executive who’s dealing with the recent engagement of her ex-boyfriend, and decides to go on a date with her, in which they hit it off.
Shortly thereafter, FDR runs into Lauren at a video store and tries to flirt with her, but she notices that he’s a ladies’ man and ignores him. Intrigued, FDR crashes into one of Lauren’s test groups and convinces her to go on a date with him, where they also enjoy themselves. Lauren feels guilty about dating two men at the same time, but is convinced by her best friend Trish (Chelsea Handler) to make the best of the situation.
FDR and Tuck soon discover that they’re seeing the same woman and decide not to tell her that they know each other, to interfere with each others’ dates, nor have sex with her and let her come a decision between them. However, they soon break their rules and use CIA technology to spy on her and discover her preferences, as well as try to sabotage one another.
And that’s where all the fun starts. If you’re Lauren Scott, you will definitely enjoy being courted by two good looking men, what more, the perfect date she dreamed of. It’s always hilarious whenever FDR Foster and Tuck Henson competes with each other just so Lauren Scott finally choose whom she should be with in the end.
It’s hard to talk about this movie without revealing too much details. But for me, I enjoyed Tom Hardy’s character more because he portrays the perfect gentleman and hopeless romantics are always better compared to playboys. But of course, the movie will also showed the softer side to Chris Pine’s character.
I just felt, the ending doesn’t convinced me – especially when it’s time for Lauren Scott to choose who among his two spy suitors she should end with. But it’s up to the moviegoers how they will react on that.
Over all, the movie is fun to watch. I enjoyed every scene with Chelsea Handler. Go watch this movie if you love romance, action and comedy all-in-one.
