Wrath of the Titans is a 2012 American fantasy film and sequel to the 2010 film Clash of the Titans. Wrath of the Titans takes place a decade after the events of the first film as the Gods lose control over the imprisoned Titans and Perseus is called once again, this time to rescue his father Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.
Ten years after he defeated The Kraken, Perseus (Sam Worthington), the demigod son of Zeus (Liam Neeson), now lives as a fisherman with his 10-year-old son, Helius (John Bell). One night, Perseus is visited by Zeus, who tells him that the powers of the gods are fading and the walls of the underworld prison of Tartarus are breaking due to the lack of devotion from humans and states they will need the world’s armies to combat the potential threat, but Perseus shows little interest and refuses to get involved.
But he eventually changed his mind after learning that his father Zeus was captured and he almost lost his son from a monster called Chimera that attacked their village. Not confident enough because he felt he is just a demigod, he seek help and support from other demigod Agenor (Toby Kebbell) and Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike).
Just like the first film, it’s full of action and so many creatures can be seen (Pegasus, Cyclopes, Minotaur, Makhai, and Kronos) but when it comes to the last part, where the supposed to be biggest and mightiest enemy (Kraken and Kronos), it seems much easier for Perseus to defeat it. It’s less effort compared to his other enemies.
I am no expert in Greek mythology (although I know some God and Goddesses and other mythical creatures) that’s why I wouldn’t know if this is the same story one can read in books. But movie-wise, If there’s one thing good about Wrath of the Titans is how they managed to deliver a great 3D experience for their audience. Its director, Jonathan Liebesman, brings out a wealth of stunningly cool visual set pieces and there are some humor and “mushy” scenes occasionally inserted to make the story lighter.
If you like Clash of the Titans, you will definitely enjoy watching Wrath of the Titans. And it is best to see it in 3D as there are lava-throwing happening in that film.
Still showing in theaters nationwide, Wrath of the Titans stars Sam Worthington, Rosamund Pike, Bill Nighy, Édgar Ramírez, Toby Kebbell, Danny Huston, Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson with Jonathan Liebesman directing a screenplay by Dan Mazeau and David Leslie Johnson.
