Ending whispers of her rumored network transfer to ABS-CBN (where elder sister Anne Curtis and rumored boyfriend Sam Concepcion are both under contract), Jasmine Curtis-Smith signed a new 3-year contract with TV5.
The contract signing was held last Wednesday at P.F. Chang’s restaurant at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, and was attended by TV5 president and CEO Noel C. Lorenzana, TV5 chief content entertainment officer Wilma Galvante and Jasmine’s manager Betchay Vidanes.
Arriving a bit late, Betchay Vidanes revealed that it was Jasmine Curtis-Smith’s third contract signing of the day after sealing endorsement deals with mobile device maker Huawei Philippines and Goldilocks Bakeshop.
While she admitted that there were offers from the other two networks, Jasmine Curtis-Smith said it was TV5’s patience with her that made her stay. “Hindi sila nag-give up sa akin at binibigyan pa rin nila ako ng projects kapag nasa bansa ako. Sobrang forgiving nila sa absence ko in the past years kaya gusto ko namang bumawi sa kanila by working harder in the next three years. I hope to work hand in hand with the network and make TV5 a network worth watching for,” the actress stated.
A homegrown TV5 talent and hailed as one of the network’s primetime princesses, Jasmine Curtis-Smith starred in TV5’s TV remake of the hit action-romance film “Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum” opposite JC de Vera in 2011 and played the role of Epifania “Anya” Dionisio in “Nandito Ako,” where she co-starred with Eula Caballero and American Idol Season 7 runner-up David Archuleta in 2012. In the third quarter of 2013, Jasmine starred in TV5’s action series “Undercover” as the leading lady of Derek Ramsay. The project was Jasmine’s 3rd primetime series on the network.
Jasmine Curtis-Smith said she was very thankful for being one of the Kapatid Network’s Princesses and is looking forward to more challenging projects that came with her new contract.
Aside from doing dramas, Jasmine Curtis-Smith has also done comedy, fantasy, horror and variety by appearing in various TV5 programs such as “Fantastik,” “Hey It’s Saberday!,” “Pidol’s Wonderland,” “Regal Shocker” and presently in “Tropa Mo Ko Unli.”
One of the projects that excites her most is a proposed movie with National Artist candidate/Superstar Nora Aunor.
“There are plans na gumawa ng pelikula alongside Ms. Nora Aunor, and that is something na I hope matuloy because she is such a renowned actress and she is such as icon. It would be nice to learn tips from her and skills from her if ever matuloy nga ang plano to do that film,” Jasmine Curtis-Smith told entertainment media.
Wilma Galvante said Jasmine Curtis-Smith will also have possible endorsement deals with companies under the MVP group, such as PLDT, Smart, Meralco, Sun Cellular, SPi Global and Makati Medical Center.
The TV5 exec adds the young actress will have a very “busy contract” and mentioned several programs made specifically for the TV5 Princess. In addition to the Saturday night social media music show “SpinNation” Jasmine Curtis-Smith will also get top billing in the new series called “Jasmine: Just Mine.” The weekly drama series will be a joint venture between Unitel and advertising agency Ace Saatchi & Saatchi and will be directed by Mike Alcazaren who also helmed Jasmine’s acclaimed CineFilipino thriller “Puti”.
“The series is the first of several collaborations with different advertising agencies. As you all know, we do things differently here at TV5, we’re trying out new things and working with ad agencies will allow us to tap their creativity and incorporate their ideas into our shows,” revealed Lorenzana.
Studio5 is also planning to produce films for Jasmine to further showcase her acting prowess that was first recognized in her debut film “Transit” which won for her the New Breed Best Supporting Actress at the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.
