“Oblivion” is a science- fiction film starring Tom Cruise as Commander Jack Harper, one of the last remaining drone repairmen on Earth, which was nearly destroyed by alien invasion 60 years earlier. A confrontation in the past remained in his memory that led him in wanting to discover a lot of things.
His mission is to extract vital resources after decades of war with a threat known as the Scav, he lives in an airbourne “town” floating thousands of feet above the Earth. He will then be able to save an unfamiliar woman from her critical condition on a downed spacecraft. From here, a lot of questions would begin entering into his mind about himself and his mission. He would be in search for the answers and he will be responsible in saving the future of the civilization.
Oblivion was shot in 4K digital resolution on location across the United States and Iceland.
Oblivion premiered in the Philippines last April 8, 2013 at SM Mall of Asia IMAX Theatre. Audience witnessed the action packed, breathtaking scenes brought by the film. Even though it wasn’t shown in 3D, the digital audio and crystal clear images added to the aesthetics of the movie. The camera works were superb because the audience would see an angle from the top, side, and normal eye level from the base especially when there are scenes that focuses on Tom Cruise when he is rappelling down to the crystal Iceland cave and when he rides his specialized aircraft. The music was M83 and Daft Punk. The lighting and cinematography is great and fits in the setting of the scene. Oblivion gave an outstanding performance from the cast, a mind-blowing script, and outstanding visual effects.
The film was directed by Joseph Kosinski, co- produced by Peter Chernin, Ryan Kavanaugh, Dylan Clark, and Barry Levine. The film was based on an unpublished Oblivion graphic novel written by Joseph Kosinsky and Arvid Nelson.
The movie also features Morgan Freeman as Malcom Beech (a resistance leader stationed on Earth), Olga Kurylenko as Julia Rusakova, Andrea Riseborough as Victoria Olsen, Nikolaj Coster- Waldau as Sykes (a battle- hardened, intelligent, and highly athletic military weapons expert), Melissa Leo as Sally, Zoe Bell as Kara, James Rawlings as Survivor, Lindsay Clift, Jaylen Moore as Radio operator and John L. Armijo as Nasa Ground Control.
