Filipino Transgender actor BB Gandanghari is currently promoting her first TV5 series with her brothers Rommel Padilla and Robin Padilla entitled “2 1/2 Daddies“.
During the show’s promo and pocket press conference held at Mario’s Restaurant in Tomas Morato, Quezon City last January 22, the former matinee idol/action star opened up about her renewed relationship with the Padilla family, her transgender role, her former wife Carmina Villaroel, and possible competition with gay actor-host Vice Ganda.
BB Gandanghari came to life after Rustom Padilla (which she claim is already dead) came out in the closet in 2006 thru “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition” aired over ABS-CBN. She revealed that ABS-CBN was not aware of her plans to come out although she admit that her real reason for joining the reality show is to make a grand revelation. She also confess that before joining, the first person to whom she reveal her true identity was with her ex-wife Carmina Villaroel. The two married in 1994 and filed for annulment after several months, which was granted in June 2002. In an interview she said, Carmina was actually supportive with her decision to come out.
BB Gandanghari appeared in the film adaptation of the comic book Zsazsa Zaturnnah (her first film role as a gay man) in 2006. The following year, she appeared in the television series La Vendetta on GMA 7 and the movie Happy Hearts, and later appearing on the ABS-CBN teleserye, Eva Fonda (2008).
In January 2009, BB Gandanghari came out as a trans woman. Although she is open to undergo sex reassignment surgery, she refused to comment if the procedure was already done.
For her new show in the Kapatid Network, BB Gandanghari, along with Robin Padilla and Rommel Padilla, will star in their first-ever comedy show together and take on the sibling roles that the public has never seen before. 2 ½ Daddies, is a light family sitcom that promises to deliver a laugh-out-loud viewing experience every Saturday.
In an interview with Orange Magazine, BB Gandanghari reveals she is okay to be compared with Vice Ganda and that she is open to do movie projects with the gay comedian.
“If and when, it would be a good competition. Magkaiba ‘yung pwede naming i-offer. Though I’m doing comedy, ‘yung brand of comedy ko is very different from his so yung masarap makita ng tao,” shares BB Gandanghari.
