Leading telecommunications and digital services provider PLDT will hold a hackathon to develop digital customer service solutions as part of the celebration of its 88th anniversary on November 28.

Organized by PLDT Innolab and its Public Affairs Group, the #PLDT88 Hackathon Challenge is in line with the PLDT Group’s commitment to continuously improve customer service. Participants will be specifically tasked to come up with innovative solutions designed to enhance customers’ experience for the millions of PLDT HOME subscribers and SME customers.

The competition will have two legs. Co-organized by RedWizard Events Management, the Luzon leg will be held in Manila on November 12-13 at the PLDT Innolab Teltec in Boni Mandaluyong and will assemble interested teams from Manila and other parts of Luzon. The VisMin leg will be held in Davao and Cebu on November 19-20 where teams from the Visayas and Mindanao regions can compete. The Davao hackathon will be held at the PLDT Innolab in Poblacion, Davao City, while Cebu hackathon will be held in PLDT Innolab in Mabolo, Cebu City.

These teams have a chance to win P100,000, other exciting prizes, and, an opportunity to get their ideas fully developed and implemented.

The hackathon is being done in partnership with PLDT Home and PLDT SME Nation, and in cooperation with Smart DevNet, Voyager Innovations and IdeaSpace Foundation.

“This year’s celebration of our 88th anniversary takes place as the Company pursues its efforts to become the leading proponent of digital services and solutions in the country. This hackathon to develop innovative customer solutions is fully aligned with our digital pivot,” said PLDT Chairman and CEO Manuel V. Pangilinan.

Interested individuals are asked to register at www.pldt.com/88hackathon to secure their slot in the Manila leg. The first 100 to successfully register can participate in the event.

During the two-day event, each group will be tasked to create a digital solution based on the suggested categories of customer experience concerns defined by experts during the pre-hackathon event. Each group is given five minutes to pitch their ideas and present their prototypes in front of the judges. Judges can ask their questions, and participants can demonstrate and expound on their solutions given the challenge.

The top three groups with the best ideas and digital solutions will be declared the winners of the Manila leg. The winners for the Metro Manila leg will receive P15,000 each as a group, along with some exciting prizes. All winning groups will then compete at the Ultimate Pitch, which will be held in PLDT’s Makati Vitro on November 24 where the three winners from each of the competition leg will vie for the ultimate title and win the P100,000 cash prize.

“As the Company celebrates its 88th anniversary, the #PLDT88 Hackathon serves as one of the avenues for developing digital solutions for the benefit of our customers. Our continuous effort to search for innovative and feasible ideas is one way to further empower the growing community of talented Filipino developers and start-ups here in the country,” PLDT VP and Head of Mainstream Business Development and Research Joey Limjap said.

The #PLDT88 Hackathon Challenge is being supported by IP Converge and PayMaya.
