ALA Boxing Gym’s stalwart Milan “El Metodico” Melindo finally got his world title when he demolished former IBF Light Flyweight champion Akira Yaegashi in a single round in Tokyo, Japan. Fight fans will be able to witness his valiant conquest this Sunday (May 28) on “Pinoy Pride Presents: Milan Melindo,” which will have a primetime telecast on S+A at 8pm.

Fresh from grabbing the interim belt in his last fight, Melindo (36-2; 13KOs) defeated the former titlist Yaegashi (25-6; 13KOs) in a showdown of technique and skill in the ring to bring home the title that has eluded him twice.

Yaegashi is a three-division world champ like Melindo’s stablemate, Donnie “Ahas” Nietes, with the WBA Minimumweight and WBC Flyweight to his name before defeating IBF Light Flyweight ruler Javier Mendoza. Analysts and fans expected a war with Melindo’s sharp combinations and patented double-left hook spelling trouble for Yaegashi, but Melindo had better plans and took only one round to complete the upset.

Don’t miss Milan Melindo’s quest for glory on “Pinoy Pride Presents: Milan Melindo” this coming Sunday (May 28) on S+A. For more information and stories, go online visit ABS-CBN’s sports hub sports.abs-cbn.com.
