Did you know that the Philippines is now one of the top 10 travel destinations for the Chinese people? Chinese tourist arrivals have been growing for over 30 percent and the Department of Tourism (DOT) projects tourists to reach 1.5 million annual arrivals starting this year.
These tourists spend an average of P6,000.00/day on shopping, dining, transportation and attractions/tours and other experiential purchases.
If you’ve ever been a tourist, you’d agree that one of the most difficult and tricky things is paying for your purchases. If you are using cash, not only do you have to be extra careful when dealing with money changers, you also have to always consider the best exchange rate. Credit cards are convenient, but if you are shopping at the smaller stores or street shops, they might not be accepting card payments at all.
For business owners, this can also have a big effect as they could be limiting their sales and even lose potential customers just because of a limited payment system. Good thing local business owners can easily accommodate the influx of Chinese tourists with the new AUB PayMate App.
Asia United Bank developed the AUB PayMate app, an all-in-one cashiering tool to process WeChat Pay payments, providing Merchant Partners with cashier management, transactional and reportorial functions.
AUB enables its merchant partners to accept mobile payments from Chinese customers.
“To the merchant, it’s more markets. So aside from accepting payments from Chinese tourists, they can now also accept payments from local customers via the AUB PayMate app,” explained Maria Magdalena V. Surtida, AUB First Vice-President and credit cards business head.
Late last year, AUB signed a licensing agreement with Tencent to accredit Philippine merchants to accept payments using WeChat Pay’s QR code-based technology.
Merchant Partners who signs up with AUB PayMate can instantly process WeChat payments from Chinese customers. This app also allows the merchant to manage cashier’s access in the app and access to daily payment transactions or statuses via the Cahier’s Management module.
Merchants can choose from any of these three easy Payment Collection Methods:
- Cashier Scans Customer’s QR Code: Customer generates a unique QR code from his/her WeChat Pay account. Cashier inputs the transaction amount in the AUB PayMate App. Cashier scans QR code and instantly collects payment from the customer.
- Customer Scans Merchant’s Transactional QR Code: The Cashier inputs the transaction amount in the AUB PayMate App. The Cashier to choose payment method (WeChat Pay) then generates the QR code for the customer to scan. From the WeChat app, the Customer scans the QR code generated by the Cashier. The Customer inputs his/her payment password, then payment is complete.
- Customer Scans from the Printed/Fixed QR Code Display: The Merchant Partner displays a printed fixed QR code inside the establishment. From the WeChat app, the Customer scans the printed QR code to pay The Customer inputs his/her payment password, the payment is complete.
