“Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer.” We couldn’t agree more, especially after our recent trip to the stunning coastal city of Da Nang, Vietnam. When we decided to explore Southeast Asia, our first thought was to find a flight that was both convenient and affordable. That’s where Cebu Pacific came in. Their direct flight from Manila to Da Nang made the journey a breeze, getting us to this vibrant destination in just a few hours. It really showed us how easy and accessible travel can be.
Upon arriving in Da Nang, we were immediately struck by the city’s unique charm, a perfect blend of modern life and traditional Vietnamese culture. We settled into our home for the first two nights, the Four Points by Sheraton Da Nang, a perfect base for our adventure.
Our second day began with a trip up to the breathtaking Son Tra Peninsula, also known as “Monkey Mountain.” The views from the top were simply spectacular, offering a panoramic sweep of the city and the sparkling coastline below. The highlight for us was visiting the Linh Ung Pagoda, a serene sanctuary where the massive Lady Buddha statue stands watch over the city. It’s a truly peaceful and beautiful place, and the sheer scale of the statue is awe-inspiring.
After soaking in the views, we delved into the region’s past at the Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture. Walking through the galleries, we felt like we were stepping back in time. The intricate carvings and artifacts told the story of the ancient Champa civilization, a powerful and artistic kingdom that once thrived here. It was a humbling experience to witness such a rich and well-preserved history.
Day three was all about pure magic. We took a thrilling cable car ride up to Sun World Ba Na Hills, a fantasy park with a cool, misty climate. The star attraction, without a doubt, was the Cầu Vàng or Golden Bridge. Standing on that bridge, held aloft by two giant stone hands, felt surreal. The views were unbelievable, and we spent hours exploring the fantastical sights.
We later capped off the day at Hoi An Ancient Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Vietnam, where you can find the iconic 18th-century landmark, the Japanese Covered Bridge (Chua Cau).
At the Hoi An Night Market, Aside from the street foods and lively trading hub, there are stalls that sells colorful lanterns that you can use as backdrop for you photos for a minimal fee (around PHP20-40).
We also did the scenic boat trip along the Hoai River and participated in the tradition of releasing floating lanterns for good luck.
Btw, we transfered at the beautiful Bellerive Hoi An Resort & Spa, which offered a peaceful retreat after our exciting day.
On our fourth day, we started with a significant cultural pilgrimage to the My Son Sanctuary. Surrounded by lush jungle, the ancient ruins of the Cham temples stood as a powerful testament to a long-lost civilization. Walking among the brick towers, we could almost feel the history and spiritual energy that once filled this sacred valley.
For a change of pace, we then headed to one of the most fun experiences of the trip–the Coconut Village Basket Boat Ride at Bay Mau Coconut Forest. We enjoyed the whimsical traditional basket boats and watching skilled boaters spin and glide through the waterways. It was an exhilarating and uniquely Vietnamese experience that gave us a glimpse into local life.
We also attended a cooking class at Sabirama Cooking Tour & Restaurant, where we prepared some authentic Vietnamese dishes such as wet springroll and mango salad.
The day concluded with the spectacular Hoi An Memories Show. It was a truly epic performance that brought the town’s history to life with dazzling lights, music, and incredible choreography.
The Hoi An Memories Show is a large-scale, open-air cultural spectacle at the Hoi An Impression Theme Park in Vietnam, showcasing 400 years of Hoi An’s history through music, dance, and elaborate sets, with over 500 performers and no spoken dialogue.
Our final day began at the tranquil Tra Que Vegetable Village. It was amazing to see how the local farmers cultivate their fragrant herbs and vegetables using traditional, organic methods. We even got to try our hand at farming, learning how to till the soil and water the crops. It was a small but memorable moment that connected us to the heart of the community.
We also attended a cooking class at Tra Que Herb Garden where we get to try cooking Bánh xèo, a Vietnamese pancake.
Next, we explored the incredible Marble Mountains. We hiked through a labyrinth of caves and pagodas, each with its own unique story. The views from the top were a fantastic reward for our climb. The caves, in particular, felt mysterious and sacred.
For our final Da Nang memory, we passed by the Dragon Bridge. It was a spectacular sight and the perfect farewell to the city. We ended our trip with a delicious farewell dinner and a final cultural show, the Ao Dai Show, celebrating the elegance of Vietnam’s national dress. These shows typically combine traditional music, dance, and martial arts with a fashion show to tell a story from the Nguyen Dynasty to the present day, blending royal and folk elements.
