Last year, BUM Equipment offered clothes that solely highlighted the emo-punk trend, this time, the brand is once again uping the style ante by creating a new collection that plays up the stylish glam-punk trend.
It seems BUM Equipment’s new design philosophy includes a new phase in design evolution, unpredictable and evolving which works well based on the print ads and billboard we’re seeing now.
According to Bienvenido P. Reyes, senior merchandiser and designer for BUM Equipment, this move was driven by the increasing demand of an older market. Reyes says, “The emo-punk trend captured the teen market. Of course, some of these loyal followers have now grown up. But even then, they still want to patronize BUM. That’s why we are somehow broadening the design concept of the brand to capture that new market.”
Although BUM Equipment is entering a new phase, its trademark “rebel” look, which its loyal followers have grown to love, will still be there: splashy colors, tribal elements, and wild prints.
For its upcoming collections, including its Summer Collection 2012, BUM will bring in new elements like outlined and geometric shapes, paisleys, plaids, and stripes. It will also bring in motorcycle jackets, shiny blouses, vests, tapered pants, cardigans, oversized T-shirts, Daisy-Dukes shorts, and studded pieces.
According to Shiena G. San Antonio, junior merchandiser and designer, BUM is embracing the trends from other parts of the world and incorporating them into its collections. “I think BUM is looking into following the trends happening around the world. We don’t want to get left behind. That’s why we’re creating pieces that might be a little different in the eyes of our loyal followers,” says San Antonio.
Part of BUM’s evolution is also the introduction of new silhouettes, cuts, and fabrics. Loyal BUM followers can now expect pieces made of knit, twills, leather, rayon, foils, and other fabrics that are not normally utilized by other local brands. Reyes explains, “I guess people will be seeing new offerings for BUM more often. Before, we just focused on tees. Our jackets were limited. The variety was not that wide. This time, we will introduce new pieces every season. That’s something that fashionistas, both young and old, can look forward to in the coming months.”
