The University of the Philippines Alumni Association – School of Urban and Regional Planning Chapter will be hosting an Earth Day event dubbed “Isang Daang Pitik , Isang Daang Pik; Para Sa Kalikasan” also as part of the UPAA centennial celebration. This will be held at the UP Sunken Garden on Friday, April 26, 2013, from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

Also called the Green Guitar Festival, the event hopes to gather 10,000 guitarists/guitar enthusiasts to celebrate the gifts of Mother Earth and make an urgent call for the protection of our environment. The festival is an opportunity to raise consciousness on the importance of comprehensive land use planning in environmental protection and management. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Home Development Mutual Fund, Philippine Women’s University- School of Environment and Habitat, Ateneo School of Government, GEODATA, Planades and the UPAA – School of Urban and Regional Planning Chapter have joined forces for the activity.  This fund raising project will provide free land use planning assistance to low-income municipalities in Mindanao, especially those badly affected by typhoon Pablo.

The festival is open to the public and a search for the original guitar composition with environment message is also up for competition.  The public is invited to bring their guitar and jam with Ramon Jacinto, Noel Cabangon, Joey Ayala, Ely Buendia and the Oktaves, Barbie Almabis-Honasan and many more UP home grown artists.

For details and other inquiries, please contact Ms. Lina Caluag at the SURP AA Chapter with telephone number 632- 920-6853.
