ABS-CBN is the new home of the iconic characters created by the legendary ‘komiks’ novelist Marcial “Mars” Ravelo including Darna, Dyesebel, and Captain Barbell as the network officially acquired the exclusive rights to 13 Mars Ravelo titles.

The family of the late writer, represented by his son Rex Ravelo and his daughter Rita Ravelo-Dela Cruz, inked the deal with ABS-CBN chairman Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III, ABS-CBN president and CEO Charo Santos-Concio, ABS-CBN broadcast head Cory Vidanes, and chief finance officer Rolando Valdueza.

Rex Ravelo said that though they had considered giving the rights to his dad’s creations to other networks, they considered ABS-CBN as the best option.  “ABS-CBN is an institution and based on their productions, we believe that they deserve the license,” Rex Ravelo said. He also said that their father’s most popular character Darna might be the first production project of ABS-CBN.
