Award-Winning actor Paulo Avelino stars in his very first film under Star Cinema together with Regal Films in Pagpag, Siyam Na Buhay.
Written by Joel Mercado and directed by Frasco Mortiz, Pagpag is inspired by the ancient Filipino folklore anchored on the superstitious belief that one should not go directly home after visiting a wake lest bringing home evil spirits. It is the only horror movie to participate in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival and it marks the historic team-up between Star Cinema and Regal Films in 20 years.
With his notable achievements on TV as evident in his unforgettable performances on top-rating soaps such as Walang Hanggan, Kahit Konting Pagtingin, and currently on the hit series Honesto, Paulo is arguably one of the hottest young actors in ABS-CBN today. Pagpag is a career milestone that further showcases Paulo’s versatility as an actor as he joins the movie’s ensemble cast led by Daniel Padilla, Shaina Magdayao, and Kathryn Bernardo.
“I’ve done several horror films but Pagpag is very special since this is my first with Star Cinema,” says Paulo. “I bonded with the cast and crew and learned a lot from my co-actors and of course, from Direk Frasco. We devoted a lot of time and effort in ensuring that this will be an unforgettable movie worth watching with family and friends this holiday season.”
Aside from being a horror flick, Pagpag is also an adventure movie with a hint of comedy and romance as its characters embark in a spine-chilling race against time to overcome the horrors they unleashed in breaking the Pinoy beliefs that should be observed in attending wakes.
“Moviegoers are in for a roller-coaster ride. Pagpag has all the elements of a great horror movie. It depicts a classic story of good versus evil and it’s thrilling to see which force will prevail at the end of the movie,” explains Paulo.
The film also stars Matet De Leon, Dominic Roque, Miles Ocampo, Clarence Delgado, CJ Navato, Michelle Vito, Janus Del Prado, and Marvin Yap. Pagpag, Siyam Na Buhay is part of Star Cinema’s 20th anniversary and it shows in cinemas nationwide starting December 25.
