Former British Army Captain Ed Stafford is embarking on one of the most extreme survival challenges ever attempted on television. He will be dropped from a plane onto the uninhabited Fijian island of Olorua and left there naked and alone for 60 days with only his brain and bare hands to keep him alive. He has no clothes, food, water, knives or tools –only a camera to document his entire experience, a medical kit and a walkie-talkie which he is allowed to use only in the most urgent of medical situations in the four-part series NAKED CASTAWAY, premiering on Discovery Channel on Tuesday, February 11 at 10:00 p.m.

NAKED AND MAROONED WITH ED STAFFORD

Ed is no stranger to danger and adventure but he is about to face his biggest challenge yet – surviving alone on a deserted island with absolutely no supplies. It is an undertaking that is even more physically and mentally demanding; so daunting that nobody has ever done it before.Filmed entirely by Ed himself, there has never been a more authentic survival series on television.Fellow adventurer Bear Grylls, host of Discovery Channel’s MAN VS. WILD and BEAR GRYLLS: ESCAPE FROM HELL called Ed’s expedition “one of the boldest modern-day adventures ever taken”.

From the moment he lands on Olorua, Edis on an extraordinary race to stay alive. With no tools, rations or clothes to keep him going, and no film crew to keep him company or bail him out, Ed must dig deep within his psyche and push past his fears to quickly establish his priorities. His prior years of survival training and knowledge will be put into action: he must master the island to become completely self-reliant despite being plagued by limited resources, stifling sickness, loneliness and mysterious island creatures.

In the fierce tropical heat, Ed has only hours once he arrives to find potable water before dehydration sets in and ends his attempt before it even begins. He can only last three days without water and three weeks without food. Surrounded by beautiful tropical reefs, Ed will have to find a way to fish for food by fashioning a net or spear, while making sure he avoids the deadly sharks that inhabit the seas around the island. He must also find a way to light a fire, build a proper shelter and avoid danger.

Will Ed have the skills, resilience and determination to thrive for the 60-day challenge? How will he cope with the sweltering temperatures by day and freezing temperatures at night with no shelter or sun screen? Will his biggest struggles be inadequate fresh water and constant sources of protein, or will the lack of human contact for two months be the toughest obstacle to overcome?

These questions and more will be answered on NAKED CASTAWAY as the series follows Ed through this riveting journey and his emotional highs and lows whilst he endeavoursto create a sustainable life on this remote island outpost.NAKED CASTAWAY encores every Wednesday at 3:00 p.m., Saturday at noon and Sunday at 11:00 p.m.
