In support of the Philippine Standard Time (PhST) initiative led by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical & Astronomical Services Administration-Department of Science and Technology (PAGASA-DOST), Globe Telecom has implemented the PHST in its Globe Stores and premium dealers nationwide.
This is in compliance with the adoption of the PhST in accordance with RA 10535 or the Philippine Standard Time of 2013.
All Globe Stores are to synchronize their time with that of the PhST and ensure that all time pieces including laptops, computers, TV screens, bundy clocks as well as demo devices and mobile hotlines have been adjusted according to the PhST starting January 1, 2014.
Aside from this effort, Globe Store retail staff and customers are to update time and date of all new handsets and devices prior to release to customers, while new and existing Globe subscribers also get a refresher on the nationwide adoption of the PhST during transactions at Globe Stores. “We are proud to participate in the nationwide initiative of PAGASA-DOST to implement the Philippine Standard Time. This is one way of showing our commitment to country-wide initiatives by tapping our resources, employees, and customers in observing the country’s standard time. Over 100 Globe stores will serve as key platform in addressing our customers’ inquiries on Philippine Standard Time. Globe customers may visit any of our stores nationwide for their synchronization needs,” said Joe Caliro, Globe Retail and Transformation Management Head.
Globe is likewise promoting the initiative through social media, particularly through its Facebook page: facebook.com/globeph, as well as Twitter account @enjoyglobe, both leading to the PhST website for more information about the initiative. Globe subscribers are also receiving free advisories through SMS, informing them of the PAGASA-DOST URL where they can refer to the PhST.
The Republic Act 10535 or the Philippine Standard Time Act of 2013 requires all government offices and broadcast firms to display the PhST provided by the DOST’s Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration. The new law also provides for the observance of National Time Consciousness Week, which started last January 1, 2014 with the theme “Juan Time: Pinoy Ako, On-Time Ako!” To know more about Philippine Standard Time, visit http://kidlat.pagasa.dost.gov.ph/ourtime.shtml.
