It wasn’t his plan to become an artist even if the music genes was apparently passed on to him by his father, April Boy Regino – a popular novelty singer in the 90’s – tinkering with the guitar, piano, and the drums growing up.
JC Regino was his father’s biggest fan; seeing crowds singing along, hearing massive radio airplay, plus TV and movie appearances. Seeing his father living the dream, JC tried to write his first song at 14 and asked his hitmaker father for some pointers. “Hindi nya nagustuhan,” quips the 23-year old singer-songwriter. That first attempt made the more determined JC to impress his greatest critic and finished “Hanggang Sa Dulo Ng Aking Buhay” and “Di Na Ako Iibig Pang Muli” both included in their father-son album, “Idolstar” in 2010. That was also JC’s first foray into the music scene and got more fascinated with the ins and outs of the industry.
When the Regino family decided to move to the US, JC became April Boy Regino’s guest act during his performances all over America. Before, he sings duets with his dad but now he was “forced” to sing his songs solo – a foreshadowing of what’s to come. With enough experience and hundreds of songs later, JC and his family went back to the Philippines; little did he know that this will be the start of his dream solo career.
As JC was about to fly back to the States, he received a call from legendary songwriter Vehnee Saturno got him to be the voice of one of his newest works. The project was enough to make him a demo for MCA Music. The rest, indeed, was history. The all-original album is like his homage to his father, who supported and believed in him since day 1. “Sabi nila magkaboses kami,” JC will bring back the April Boy Regino sound that the nation loved with the attitude that is uniquely his.
JC’s secret is to be humble in the success and defeat and to always put God first. “Kahit sa simula pa lang ng mga plano, dapat kasama na si God agad.” Indeed, it has kept him going to become like his biggest inspiration – his father. “Sana makilala din yung mga kanta ko at maka-reach out sa mga tao kagaya ni Daddy.” Next on his list: to have a huge concert at the Big Dome and do a duet with April Boy Regino. He has taken the first huge steps and just a bit more to fulfill it – all to make his big man and the Big Man proud.
JC’s EP features his carrier single “Wasak” composed by legendary songwriter Vehnee Saturno. It also includes 2 more Saturno penned tracks like “Pinakamaganda” and “Suklob”, “Tulad Mong Sabik” written by Lito Camo and “Di Mo Ba Nadarama”, a song composed by JC Regino himself.
