Knowledge Channel Foundation distributes “Kwentong Kartero” CDs, with corresponding session guides and teachers’ guides, to participants of Superintendents Leadership Program at the Eugenio Lopez Center in Antipolo City. “Kwentong Kartero” is three-episode video on population education that is produced by K Channel in collaboration with Philippine Center for Population and Development (PCPD). The corresponding video episodes and teachers’ guides are good materials for teacher in-service trainings to equip them with knowledge and skills to better teach population and development, human sexuality, and responsible parenthood.
The story revolves around the love story of a mailman named Popo and a teacher named Divina. The funny yet informative and value-laden episodes of “Kwentong Kartero” talk about population and development sexuality, and responsible parenthood. The first episode is entitled Population Dynamics, which deals with the relevance of population growth to country’s economic development. The second episode, Population and Development Interconnection, tackles how human development can lead to economic advancement. And the last episode, Human Sexuality and Responsible Parenthood, teaches viewers on how to make decisions on marriage and how to be responsible parents in the future.
All these topics aim to emphasize the importance of population issues in relation to sustainable development and recognize the significance of having proper understanding of the dynamic population-environment-development interrelationship.
Four CDs are given to each schools division superintendent. K Channel encourages the SDSs to replicate the videos and distribute them to various schools under their supervision to be used in their classrooms.#
