Coron, Palawan, a place known for its natural wonders, was devastated by Typhoon Haiyan on November 8, 2013. More than 9,000 families or 42,941 people were affected in Coron according to the December 9 report of NDRRMC.

K Channel desires to extend its reach to the schools affected by Typhoon Haiyan, initially in Coron, Palawan where many lives, homes, schools and livelihoods were destroyed. K Channel wants to bring Learning Effectively through Enhanced Pedagogies (LEEP) training program to Coron and train the principals and teachers of the 38 public schools on how to bring out effective learning, with special emphasis on disaster risk reduction management (DRRM) and climate change adaptation (CCA).

LEEP is of K Channel’s new program that trains teachers and principals on how to implement DepEd’s K to 12 curriculum towards effective learning. The training promises effective yet fun ways of learning where learners are active participants in their own learning and where growth in learning is continuous. As of today, K Channel has trained over 600 public schools all over the country.

K Channel is enhancing the LEEP modules making it even more relevant by integrating DRRM and CCA, which is critical to the needs of the teachers, principals, and the learners in the various locales that are more exposed to calamities.

Coron Palawan

Because of the country’s susceptibility to natural disasters, more efforts should be made to build the learner’s capacities and resilience. LEEP would like to contribute to these efforts by incorporating DRRM in LEEP training to train teachers and principals on the basic survival tips before, during and after calamities, and approaches in increasing the level of awareness of the learners and the community to the threats and impacts of all hazards, risks, and vulnerabilities.

Through LEEP, teachers and principals participants will have the opportunity to improve educational outcomes, and at the same time, increase the chance of survival of their students and communities when disasters strike.

To be able to do this, K Channel and children of Coron, Palawan need your support. K Channel joined the GlobalGiving’s March Open Challenge, an online donation platform for NGOs that allots one month for participating organizations to raise funds for their projects. GlobalGiving provides an easy step by step process on how people can make donations. Visit: http://www.globalgiving.org/projects/kchannelforcoron/

Help K Channel raise $30,000 to be able to give LEEP training to the 38 public schools in Coron, Palawan. Help us lead Coron towards higher educational outcomes and better future.
