Summer is here and so are the irritating head lice.

25 children in Barangay Dinalupihan, Bataan, gets to learn how to properly wash their hair to combat lice infestation in an Oplan Alis Kuto program recently conducted by a team of students from Messiah College, the first intentionally Christian Liberal Arts and Business College in the Philippines. The event is part of the school’s annual community service which aims to help local communities through various health and education awareness programs.

Messiah College has been helping over 30 needy communities in and outside Metro Manila from the time it was founded in 2006. Every year, the students, faculty, and staff are divided into teams and are sent to high need areas in various cities and provinces including Batangas, Pangasinan, Pampanga, Bataan, Bulacan, Zambales, Mindoro, La Union, and Laguna, often returning to certain locations to follow up what they started the year before.  In the past 8 years, Messiah College has extended help through service programs like free medical mission and dental check-ups, feeding programs, tree planting, street cleaning, and beautification of public schools and churches. The college also holds seminars centered on morals and values, anti-bullying, livelihood training, music, sports and dance workshops, and self-defense which are done in partnership with local churches and schools.

“At Messiah College, we focus on disciplining not just the mind, but also the heart of our students. The annual activity helps our students embrace the importance of helping people and the environment. Their shared experiences are something that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives,” said Bob Del Rosario, Messiah College President.

Located near the intersection of Edsa and Ortigas Avenue, Messiah College offers CHED Approved, Government-Recognized courses:  B.S. Accountancy, B.S. Entrepreneurship, A.B. Psychology, A.B. Integrated Communications & Public Relations, and A.B. Intercultural Studies.
