When the bars close and the masses are hungry, these are America’s true superheroes. It’s almost last call and the gloves are coming off because it’s time for a food brawl. It’s the perfect recipe for a night cap: one part hungry bar-goers, two parts finger-lickin’ food, a dash of everyday cooks, with a “Golden Fry Basket” to garnish. It all adds up to a mouth-watering plateful of TLC’s newest competition series, LAST CALL FOOD BRAWL, premiering every Thursday at 9:00 p.m. starting January 2. Encores every Saturday at noon and Sunday at 8:00 p.m.
Intrepid host and late-night food aficionado Adam Gertler is on a mission to find the most talented deep fry warriors in America to serve up the best in late night and comfort foods – taken to epic proportions. It’s what Adam calls “insano”; unexpected and over-the-top versions of popular after-hours snacks. Adam’s heading to some of the most fun party towns in the U.S. – Austin, Atlanta, Memphis, Nashville, New Orleans and Panama City Beach – to host a cook-off which will determine who will take home the coveted “Golden Fry Basket” and be crowned the king, or queen of late night bites.
In each episode, he gathers four of the hottest cooks, hailing from 24-hour diners, mom-and-pop eateries and four-star establishments, and puts their skills to the test. In the first round, these chefs have just 30 minutes to create a dish inspired by a local favorite, be it tacos in Texas or chicken wings in Nashville. A local judge will then taste their food and eliminate one contender. The remaining three chefs will move on to the next challenge where they will have an hour in a food truck to prepare a dish in a specific category like cheese or barbecue.
The food brawl attracts a raucous crowd hungry for munchies and their collective vote will count as one vote towards who the champion will be. Two other experts from the local food scene will make up the judging panel. The winner will be chosen based on how much flavor they’ve incorporated into their dish, how creative they’ve been and most importantly, how delicious their food is.
Just when the chefs think they have it in the bag, Adam throws his “2 A.M. twist” in the mix, where the competitors have to make an additional dish in the remaining time using ingredients chosen by the spectators. In New Orleans, the ravenous hordes picked gator (alligator) meat and Ginger beer; while in Florida, they were craving for a sweet ending to the night and went for a fried dessert.
The chefs don’t hold anything back – including the calories! Everything’s super-sized, crispy-fried and smothered with extreme awesomeness. On the menu you’ll find French toast balls, peanut butter s’mores, deep-fried bacon chilli cheeseburger rolls and Sloppy Joe nachos.
Who will be the last one standing to become a late-night food legend? Tune in to LAST CALL FOOD BRAWL this January to watch the talented chefs duke it out in the battle for the city’s “Golden Fry Basket”!
