TV5’s New Year opening salvo continues with honors at the 12th Gawad Tanglaw Awards, including recognitions for News5, its News and Information arm.
Kapatid Network’s Good Morning Club bagged the Best Morning Program award. Named Best Public Affairs Program was Reaksyon, a show featuring Luchi Cruz-Valdes’s touching interviews with different people.
The Best News Program Anchor awards went to Paolo Bediones (male category) and Cheryl Cosim (female category), respectively. Paolo Bediones hosts Demolition Job, a show that distinguishes facts from myths, and Astig, which talks about the science behind sports, both under News5’s KBO block (Karunungan, Balita, Opinyon). He also hosts long-running emergency response program Rescue5. Cheryl Cosim hosts Numero, which discusses the stories behind relevant statistics, also under the KBO block.
For Entertainment, TV5’s Tropa Mo ’Ko Unli took home the Best Comedy/Gag Show award, while Showbiz Police got the Best Showbiz Oriented Talk Show plum.
Incidentally, Angel Aquino also won Best Supporting Actress award for her role in the Indie film Ang Huling Chacha ni Anita, one of the entries to TV5’s Cine Filipino film festival.
TV5 extends its gratitude to the teachers and the whole group of academicians behind Gawad Tanglaw, for the honors it received affirm that the network is a credible source of news and information and is now changing the game.
Now in its 12th year, Gawad TANGLAW (Tagapuring mga Akademisyan ng Aninong Gumagalaw) is an academe-based award-giving body which honours the best in Philippine media annually. It recognizes outstanding works and personalities in cinema, television, radio, print, and theater arts which contribute in the development of Philippines arts as a whole.
