If you’re looking for a nice place to dine to celebrate Mother’s Day, Abé restaurant at SM Mall of Asia is one of our highly recommended that you should try. Aside from the excellent Filipino dishes that they serve, they also have the best staff there.
Abé (pronounced: ah-beh) is a capampangan word for friend, companion, and getting together. Abé is the restaurant dedicated to the memory of artist-writer, gourmet and bon vivant Emilio Aguilar “Abe” Cruz, father of the late Larry Cruz. The restaurant serves traditional Filipino food, mostly Kapampangan, and gourmet dishes inspired by Abe’s travels around the world. Its concept and design provide the ideal setting for friends and family to dine comfortably and have a good time. Abe dishes are for sharing and served family style.
The old feel interior of the restaurant gives you that good vibes of what to expect in your dining table. Here are some of the mouth-watering Filipino cuisine that I have tried recently:
For starter, try Abé’s Paco Fern and Tomato Salad – young rainforest fern with salted egg, tomato in a light salad dressing, for P155.00.
Abé’s Kulabasa Queng Gata is a pumpkin sauteed with shrimps, string beans, tomatoes and onions. Priced at P170 and is good for 2 person.
For the main course, it’s a must to try Abé’s Sinigang sa Ube. This is one of the new dishes being served at their restaurant. The Sinigang sa Ube is not your typical sinigang as its pork and vegetables are simmered in a special purple yam (ube) broth. This one is good for 2-4 persons for P495.00.
Abé’s Lamb Adobo is one of our favorite. It’s no surprise that even National Artist of the Philippines for Visual Arts (Painting) Benedicto Reyes Cabrera or more popularly known as BenCab named Abé’s Lamb Adobo as his favorite as well. The lamb meat is perfectly cooked and seasoned well. We’d say this dish can serve 1-2 persons and is priced at P525.00.
Abé’s Bamboo Rice – mountain rice cooked with shrimps, wood ear mushrooms, and bamboo shoots steamed in a bamboo shell – is the best fried rice that we have tried. For P275.00, this can serve 2-3 persons.
For desert, Abé’s Turon Saba at Kalamay is the best choice to finish your hearty meal. This fried saba banana is filled with sticky sugar and coconut milk delicacy (kalamay) in rice wrapper. Four pieces is priced at P95.00.
Abé is part of the growing The LJC Group which operates Café Havana, Fely J’s, Lorenzo’s Way, Larry’s Café & Bar, Abe’s Farm, Bistro Remedios, and Café Adriatico.
Special thanks to Captain Waitress Darlene Cerdeña and ________ for the wonderful service you’ve given us. Looking forward to our next dining experience.
