ABS-CBN President, Chief Content Officer, and CEO Charo Santos-Concio is set to open the 43rd International Emmy Awards to be held on Monday (Nov 23) in New York City as part of her duties as the Gala Chair this year.
In an interview with “TV Patrol,” Charo expressed how overwhelmed she is to have been given by the iEmmys board the rare opportunity to host the biggest gathering of creatives, production people, and talents from different parts of the world.
“I didn’t expect that I would be given this chance to be really of service to our Kapamilya, to our kababayans to be able to represent our country and my company with pride and honor,” Charo said.
She also shared how much confidence she has in Filipino talent, especially in the field of broadcasting.
“A lot of Filipinos have great stories to tell about our Filipino spirit of strength and resilience. And I really hope more of our shows would be recognized by the international community. I’m sure five to ten years from now Filipino content will be as big as content from other parts of the world,” she explained.
Joining Charo in New York is Ultimate Heartthrob Piolo Pascual, who was invited by the iEmmy’s as presenter. Piolo joins the ranks of international stars such as Michael Douglas, Tovah Feldshuh of “The Walking Dead,” Patina Miller of “The Hunger Games,” and Lea DeLaria of “Orange is the New Black” who were also named as presenters in this year’s gala.
“It’s really overwhelming. This is something new for me and I’m just excited to be there and represent the country with Tita Charo. I’m really excited because we’re carrying the flag of the Philippines,” said Piolo.
This is not the first time international award-giving bodies recognized Charo. In previous years, Charo was also chosen as the Asian Media Woman of the Year by ContentAsia, awarded with a Gold Stevie Award for Female Executive of the Year in Asia, Australia, or New Zealand category in the Asia Pacific Stevie Awards, at was named one of the most powerful/influential women by Adobo Magazine.
The 43rd International Emmy Awards, to be hosted by Egyptian satirist Bassem Youssef, happens this Monday (November 23) at the New York Hilton Hotel.
