“Higit sa Balita, Aksyon!” More than just a phrase that spells out the battle cry of News5 – TV5’s acclaimed News and Information Arm – these words have been etched into the culture and being of every member of the entire organization, where aside from being dedicated to deliver the latest news to the public, News5 further reaches out to make an impact to even more Filipinos from all walks of life through its practice of cause journalism and its various public service campaigns.

Such was the case when the Kapatid Network’s local flagship newscast in Davao City, “Aksyon Dabaw”, recently marked its 1st Year Anniversary, and instead of celebrating this milestone in typical fashion, the TV5 Davao team had long decided to make the affair more meaningful and significant by sharing the moment with less fortunate Kapatids.

Spearheaded by the “Aksyon Dabaw” team, a half-day medical mission and public service caravan, alongside free services from various local and national government agencies was organized for the over 2,000 residents of Barangay Mini-Forest in Davao City – where an event of this kind and scale was held for just the very first time.

On top of the free food each resident was treated to, they were also given the opportunity to more importantly consult with medical experts regarding their many concerns about their health, fitness and well-being. Stations for medical check-ups, dental tooth extraction, as well as for screening of cysts and pap smear tests, were conducted. And for those who were prescribed medicines during the medical consultations, they were likewise given free medicines, eye glasses, and other giveaways to take home.

The “Aksyon Dabaw” team partnered with the local government and other critical national offices and agencies, such as the City Health Office, DOLE, in order for the residents to have face time with them and finally address whatever additional concerns they may have. Booths for SSS and PAG-IBIG registrations were likewise conveniently set up in the venue.

At the end of the day, despite having come from a very traumatic experience where their entire barangay became unfortunate victims to 2 big fires, the residents of Barangay Mini Forest – young and old, men and women alike – were visibly happy and excited to have been part of this event and celebration, with smiles beaming and reaching from ear to ear.

Being one with the entire News5 organization, the “Aksyon Dabaw” team clearly showed that a local newscast can impact even more lives by going above and beyond just reading the news and delivering information, indeed perfectly embodying what the battle cry “Higit sa Balita, Aksyon!” stands for.

As perfectly embodied by the “Aksyon Dabaw” team, the battle cry “Higit sa Balita, Aksyon” means more than just impacting lives through informing the public of the latest news and current events.

“Aksyon Dabaw” airs daily in Davao at 3:15PM only on TV5.

This medical mission and public service caravan organized by “Askyon Dabaw” was made possible through the generous support and participation of the following groups and individuals: Mr. Joey Serena, Congressman Karlo Nograles, Alagang Kapatid Foundation Inc., Don Antonio Floirendo Foundation, Julie’s Bakeshop, KBA Ad Pro, Sunny Point and Function Plaza, Pearl Beau Salon, Entrepreneur Lion’s Club, Philippine Army 10th ID, Task Force Davao, Davao Doctor’s Hospital, City Health Office, Good Samaritan Fellowship, Dr. Reginald A, Jopson, Social Security System Region XI, Pag-Ibig Region XI, Department of Labor and Employment Region XI and its line agencies – PRC, POEA, OWWA, RTWPB XI, NCMB XI, TESDA, ECC, and OSH Regional Extension Unit, Wiltelcom/Cignal, H20 Purified Drinking Water, Councilor Ibuyan, Barangay 23-C Headed by Barangay Captain Alimudin Usman, and Brokenshire College.
