80’s music heartthrob Dingdong Avanzado celebrates his 47th birthday with a special concert dubbed #HITBACK on July 24, 9:00 p.m. at the Teatrino, Promenade, Greenhills.
Known for his signature hits such as Basta’t Kasama Kita, Tatlong Beinte Singko, Maghihintay Sa ‘Yo and many more, Dingdong Avanzado is excited to take center stage once more after a brief hiatus from the live concert circuit.
“You always go back to your first love, right?” Dingdong confesses, clearly referring to his catalog of timeless hits that has since become videoke favorites or rehashed by today’s generation of budding singers. To date, Dingdong Avanzado produced 10 studio albums and 2 compilation albums. His debut album Dingdong Avanzado Extended Play (Dyna Music) was launched in 1987 while his last record, Download, was released in 2012 under Viva Records.
“It’s high time I give in to the clamor of my loyal fans. It’s heartening to know that even on social media, a lot of them still miss the old hits, and a whole lot more have been clamoring for me to do a concert again. And what better reason to hold one to celebrate it in time for my birthday, right?” he adds.
The OPM advocate and incumbent Siquijor vice governor envisioned the show as his humble contribution to the week-long inaugural celebration of Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino, scheduled for the last week of July every year.
As one of the OPM’s board of directors, Dingdong Avanzado feels that his concert should serve, not just as an appropriate prelude to a “patriotic reawakening,” but also as a nostalgic throwback to the glory days of local pop history.
#HITBACK also highlights the singer’s long-time back-up band, The Doorbells. Comprised of seasoned session musicians including musical director Elmer Blancaflor, the group has apparently been making waves in the concert circuit for some time now, particularly with their cute and catchy billing as Dingdong Avanzado and The Doorbells.
Since it’s a birthday celebration, the concert also features special performances by Dingdong’s wife and producer, Jessa Zaragoza; daughter Jayda Avanzado; and Noel Cabangon.
