With massive damage to homes reported in Central Luzon, Habitat for Humanity Philippines plans for Shelter Repair Assistance (housing materials and skilled labor) to 1,000 families whose houses were damaged by Typhoon Lando (international name: Koppu). Habitat is currently assessing the hardest-hit areas to gauge the extent of the damage in Central and Northern Luzon, which was affected by severe flooding and landslides.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported 1,693 damaged houses, with that number expecting to rise as numbers continue. The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) also reported that 104,000 people have been evacuated. Search and rescue operations are continuing.
We know that there will be a need to support affected families to repair and rebuild their homes. We are seeking funding to support this growing disaster response operation. The more funds we raise, the more families can be helped.
Let’s continue to pray for our brothers and sisters who will be rebuilding their homes and lives over the coming months, and may this serve as a reminder to extend our hearts and hands to those in need.

Last October 24, 200 volunteers from our partner J.P. Morgan took part in volunteering activities in both Metro Manila and Cebu.
In Navotas, 100 volunteers painted homes as part of a community revitalization program, and in Agujo, Daanbantayan the other 100 volunteers cleaned the site and planed trees in preparation for the final turnover of the community to its homeowners.
In addition, 8 Global Village (GV) volunteers took part in building houses at our Pinamalayan, Mindoro community last week.
The houses constructed will become home to informal settler families and public employees who lack access to decent, affordable housing.
