Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation (MVC), the only chlor-alkali producer in the Philippines, looked back on half a century of success by having a Nostalgia Manila-themed 50th anniversary celebration held on August 27 at the Shangri-La Hotel Makati.

More than a hundred MVC customers, business partners, guests, officers, as well as past and present employees gathered together and reminisced about the challenges and triumphs the company had faced during the past five decades and looked forward to 50 more years of enhancing lives. Guests from major shareholder Tosoh Corporation and Mitsubishi Corporation were likewise present in full force in support of the company’s historic occasion.

It was in 1965 when the company founded by Judge Guillermo B. Guevara, the Mabuhay Rubber Corporation, restarted operations as a chemical company producing caustic soda and polyvinyl chloride resin. The company was formally renamed Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation in 1967.

Leading the celebrations were Mr. Edwin Umali, MVC President and Chief Operating Officer, and Mr. Kenichi Udagawa, President of Tosoh Corporation. Tosoh Corporation is MVC’s largest shareholder and is a Japanese chemical and specialty products and materials group that comprises over 140 companies worldwide with a multi-ethnic workforce of more than 11,500 people.

MVC also took the opportunity to honor and recognize a number of their most valued business partners. Special appreciation was given to Unilever Philippines and Procter & Gamble, both of whom have been the company’s customers since the 1960s.

The celebration was replete with 1960’s elements with the décor, entertainment performances and musical renditions adopted from the decade when MVC was founded. Hosted by Ms. Issa Litton, the event was made more memorable with the performances of Mr. Richard Poon, The Bloomfields and the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra Quartet.

MVC creates products which enhance Filipino lives, empower the growth of other industries and contribute towards nation building. It is the only producer of caustic soda and liquid chlorine, and the leading producer of hydrochloric acid and sodium hypochlorite in the Philippines.
