The music industry is not new to him, nor is he new to performing live for thousands of spectators. He has done recording, tours, TV and radio guestings that most of us can only imagine. The OPM scene is familiar with his music, and probably have his tracks “Anghel”, “Tadhana” or “Clutch” in our playlists. He is Miro Valera, former frontman of the band Stonefree.
After the Voice Season 2 in 2014, Miro Valera returns to the OPM scene with his rendition of “Sa Isip Ko”, originally sung by Agot Isidro. His rendition primarily belongs to the alternative rock genre, way different from the other versions of the song, ballad or RnB. “My take of” “Sa Isip Ko” was first conceived during my stint on “The Voice PH”. It was one of the songs I submitted because I wanted to do a 90s OPM hit for the show. When Warner Music Philippines asked for a demo of a song I possibly want to remake, I thought to myself that this is it! I decided to send my version of the song and it’s finally out.”
“Doing covers, I challenge myself as an artist to make these songs my own. It’s been easier for me to do covers by female artists, because then, I already give a different perspective and a different take to the interpretation of the song. I “miromanticize” my covers is how I would want to call it.” Miro says, when asked why he decided to do a cover song as his official comeback to the music industry. “As far as reviving OPM songs from the 90s, it is my way of reintroducing these awesome tunes to the listening public who may not be aware of the origins of these tracks. For others who has heard the original rendition of the song, it’s to trigger the feelings that brings them back to the time they first heard these songs on the radio.” He mentioned that it is also a personal homage to the most important decade in music to his life as these are the songs he listened to as he grew up.
This single is only one of the many cover songs that Miro is going to come up with these next few months, as he is also getting geared up to release an EP. Miro considers his upcoming EP as his very own playground of sorts, because amidst all the struggles in this industry, we can’t be too serious, we should have fun in doing what we love! So expect more of these “miromanticized” versions from Miro Valera in the future.
Miro Valera’s “Sa Isip Ko” is now available for streaming on Spotify, Deezer and Apple Music, also available for full track download on iTunes.
