When photos of billboards saying, ‘Maghihintay ako…Manuel’ went viral on the social media, many netizens got excited and thought it to be a modern version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Somehow it is but it has more than just the romantic angst and ‘kilig’ of a love story. It turned out to be the Manuel L. Quezon University‘s invitation for its grand alumni on May 22, 2015.

But more than an advertising strategy, it mirrors the university’s love for the students and its quest for providing quality education. Coming from the highly successful campaign, MLQU continues the campaign serye, this time dubbed as ‘Mahihintay Ako Sa Edsa’ reflecting on the famous law graduates of the university.

Keeping up to its vision of providing quality education through excellence in instruction rendered topnotch leaders in the field of education and keeping up with the tradition of being the best law school in the country, MLQU is coming up with a new school Graduate Studies and Law located in the heart of Quezon City, the Manuel L. Quezon University School for Professional Advancement and Continuing Education (S.P.A.C.E).

Starting out as MLQU School of Law in 1947, the school has consistently produced high caliber graduates in the Bar Examinations with three of its graduates making it to the Top Ten in 1949. Soon after at its new site on R. Hidalgo St., Quiapo, Manila, other academic units were organized beginning with the School of Arts and Sciences followed by the School of Education, Commerce and Business Administration, Engineering, Architecture and Graduates Studies. With the addition of these units, the Law school became the Manuel L. Quezon Educational Institution. In 1958, the institiution acquired University status.

Subsequently the Schools of Criminology, Architecture and Secretarial Education were separated from the School of Arts and Sciences, Engineering and Commerce, Business Administration, and the School of Information Technology respectively.

And with the acquisition of MLQU in October 2014 by the New San Jose Builders Inc. (NSJBI) the university’s plans for upgrading both the academe and the school facilities have taken tremendous success. But the top priority is reclaiming its role as a breeding ground for nation-builders and producing graduates that would attain 100% passing rate in board and bar exams.

Under the new management’s supervision, there is also plan to add a course on real estate management. All of these courses would not be possible without the credible and reliable faculty and deans who are industry experts and who graduated from top universities here and abroad in order for the school to offer world-class education.

‘SIKAT ‘PAG QUEZONIANS’

The list of MLQU outstanding alumni is endless, and some of them held the position of Secretary of Justice in the person of Justice Ricardo C. Puno Sr. (1979-1984), Justice Sedfrey Ordoñez (1987-1990) and Justice Artemio Tuquero (2000-2001) while Justice Martin Villarama Jr., Justice Venicio Escolin, Justice Jose Melo, Justice Jose Virtug, Justice Ruben Reyes, and Justice Isagani A. Cruz went on to become associate justice of the Supreme Court.

Luisa Dizon-Villarama, Justice Serafin Camillon, Justice Nicolas Lapena Jr., Justice Luis Victor, Justice Enrico Lazanas, Justice Ricardo Ilarde, Justice Ricardo Lagman, Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, Justice Jose Hernandez, Justice Samuel Martires and Atty. Conrado Vasquez.

Moreover, MLQU graduates made notable achievements in government service, among them: Former Foreign Affairs secretary Alberto Romulo; Former Commision on Elections chair Benjamin S. Abalos; Former Labor Secretary and Senate President Blas F. Ople; Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin; PEZA Director General Lilia de Lima; Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz; Tarlac Governor Jose V. FORWARD-LOOKING INSTITUTION

With its many graduates who have achieved distinction in their field, MLQU is indeed a school for achievers and future heroes. This is because through quality education and training, MLQU strives to produce nationalistic, competent, educated, and upright Quezonians imbued with a spirit of selflessness and commitment to being of service to society. this is why many Quezonians have become sikat in their respective fields. MLQU also aims to establish its presence inBalanga, Bataan, as well as strengthening its Professional School, the School for Professional Advancement & Continuing Education (SPACE), which would further upgrade the level of education that they provide. MLQU recently held a grand alumni homecoming at the Edsa Shangri-La,Manila, with the theme: “MLQU Regaining its Glory!Sikat’ pagQuezonian” hosted by GMA Kapuso talents Luanne Dy and Drew Arellano. The event was attended by famous MLQU Alumni and notable government officials.

With the involvement of its alumni, the public can expect more changes and improvements in MLQU.

Kepping the legacy and building the culture of excellence, MLQU is strengthening its SPACE program with its launch and the grand opening of its Graduate Studies and Law School at the 2nd Floor, Victoria Sports Tower, 793 Efipanio de los Santos Ave, Quezon City (near MRT-Kamuning Station)
