American shoe brand Pony Footwear has just embarked on a nationwide search dubbed “Get Scouted” to find youngsters who embody the brand’s unique, independent spirit, and its “Let’s get it on” attitude. Scouring the campuses in Metro Manila and in some parts of the country, Pony has handpicked the crazies and the misfits, the artists and the dreamers, whose personal style fits the brand’s own image.
As Campus ambassadors, the handful of youngsters chosen embody what it means to be a style-setter and a role model to their peers. At an age where fitting in is imperative, these style ambassadors not only possess an independent sense of fashion, but they’ve also shown that one can do away with peer pressure, and being one’s self and being different isn’t bad. One does not have to sacrifice personal style and their own pursuits and interests to be “one with the crowd.”
Last December 11, 2015, the manila-bound half met for the first time at Taste of Capitol located in Tomas Morato. As with every epic Friday night, it started out nice and normal, but turned out pretty crazy. Filled with awesome bands, singers and sick beats, and with Smirnoff Mule and Monster Energy Drink as drink sponsors, you could tell that this was one of those nights you’ll never forget.
The night kicked-off with a lot of rock and good vibes from 88 City, the band formerly known as Jejaview. Quickly followed by the introduction of Bianca Reyes, Andrea Tuason, Julz Aquino and Frank Romuar, and a short photo-op with the Vice President of Gallop Ventures, Mr. Charles Yu and the Marketing Manager of Pony, Ms. Donna Santos.
The next performer, Mr. Jason Fernandez, amazed the crowd with a couple of songs before giving way to the epic last act. Performers, Bea Valera, Kio Priest and DCFER, got the whole place on their feet with their sick EDM music. Coupled with amazing lights and sounds from the Maner, it turned out to be a wild-ride of a night.
Their strong sense of style and strength to be themselves are what stood out among this group of brand ambassadors. They are:
Patrick Lutz: Hailing from Davao, this 19-year-old model student is taking up BS Computer Engineering at the Ateneo De Davao. This good-looking Filipino-German teen is adventurous and is into cross fit. But more than that, he volunteers for an NGO.
Arabelle Licayen. Another Ateneo De Davao student, this 19 year old is taking up BS Entrepreneurship. She is a professional cosplayer who loves otaku and J-Pop culture. She is learning how to play the bass, and is recruiting members to form her own band.
Jandall Go. The 20-year-old Cebuano is a University of San Carlos student who is taking up Psychology. He dances and plays basketball, and posts videos on his YouTube channel in his spare time.
Maria Gigante. Only 20 years old, this University of San Carlos student already has experience being a host, and an MTV Exit ambassador. She volunteers for Gawad Kalinga and is a model and university council member as well. This well-rounded beauty speaks Mandarin and Latin.
Bianca Reyes. This 20-year-old from Manila is a Mapua Institute of Technology student taking up IT. She is a varsity player for volleyball and is a beauty queen as well. Her strong personality makes her a fighter, despite considering herself an underdog.
Andrea Tuason. This 18-year-old National University student is a thrill-seeker and an outdoor enthusiast. She also loves to curl up in bed with a good book at times. She is into classic rock music, and enjoys playing guitar, drums and the harmonica.
Julz Aquino. This 20-year-old University of the Philippines student grew up in the US. He likes to play all kinds of sports and he is also into modeling. Julz is completely in love with the thrill of competing. He is the type of guy who is comfortable with who he is and definitely someone who is not afraid of trying new things.
Frank Romuar. Only 17 years old, this freshman from San Beda College is taking up MB Marketing. This dancing enthusiast describes himself as fun and joyful, and is surely a lovable addition to the group.
Pony’s campus ambassadors embody the spirit of youth that is fun and exciting. They will be featured in fashion spreads in local magazines where readers can get to know them better. Outgoing and adventurous with various interests in life, these kids are stylish, but they will also show the world what it means to be so much more than meets the eye.
