The local government of San Mateo in Rizal Province has pledged support to Manila Water’s “Toka Toka” program, the country’s first and only environmental initiative on used water management as the two institutions recently inked an agreement to jointly promote and raise awareness on used water management.

San Mateo Mayor Jose Rafael Diaz welcomed the Manila Water environmental advocacy and vowed to promote Toka Toka to the entire municipality by enjoining residents to do any of the four Tokas or ownable acts to support the environment namely:  connection to Manila Water’s sewer network; desludging every five years; proper solid waste management and support and advocacy to community sanitation programs.

Manila Water said the partnership would further enhance the “Toka Toka” program adding that unity and cooperation is needed to ensure the success of the initiative considering the impact to the environment of scarce water resources and pollution of water bodies.

Manila Water is an Ayala-led company and the east concessionaire of water and used water services to more than 6 million residents of parts of Quezon City and Manila, Marikina, Pasig, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Pateros, Makati, Taguig and several towns in Rizal Province.
