When the late legendary comedy box-office director Wenn Deramas, together with colleague Perci Intalan, watched the romantic comedy, Love Is Blind, in the Philippines, they joined the merry chorus of guffaws from the theatergoers who were in stitches from all the comic madness going on in the film. Deramas quipped, “Entertaining at nakakaaliw si Kiray. (Kiray is entertaining and funny).”
Kiray Celis or just Kiray is the brilliant 20-year-old, 4-foot-9 former child actress whose star-turning portrayal of Fe, a down-on-her-luck-in-love hotel intern who’ll do anything for love in the movie, could throw a whirling dervish out of whirl because the fellow would be ROTFLing at her antics.
Starting March 18, Kiray, together with former real now reel lovers, Derek Ramsey and Solenn Heussaff, and actor and pop-rock band Callalily vocalist Kean Cipriano will unload a barrel of laughs when TFC@theMovies brings Love Is Blind to 57 theaters in the U.S., particularly in California, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, Michigan, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Florida, Alaska and Hawaii.
Directed by the award-winning Paul Jason Laxamana, who gave moviegoers such indie films as Babagwa (Cinemalaya) and Astro Mayabang (Cinema One Originals), Love Is Blind tells the story of a spoiled, show-off bachelor named Wade (Ramsey) who turns his back on gorgeous but simplicity-lover girlfriend Maggie (Heussaff) then meets who he thinks is a better version of Maggie in the person of Fe (Kiray), disguised by a love potion concocted by love charms vendor Yari (Cipriano).
With that premise, imagine a litany of riotous mishaps that could happen… because they do happen in this hilarious film.
“Love Is Blind has only one objective: to make you laugh and it pretty much succeeds in doing so,” said ABS-CBN Global Head of Theatricals and award-winning director himself, John-D Lazatin. “This is just ‘take a break and come to the theaters to have a rollicking good time’ kind of movie. I guarantee you, it’s all fun. A new comedy star is born in Kiray.”
