The Philippines is one of the world’s emerging diabetes hotspots, being in the Top 15 list for diabetes prevalence all over the world. An estimated four million Filipinos have the disease, with an alarming number unaware they have the disease.
To spread awareness, the Philippine Center for Diabetes Education Foundation (Diabetes Center Philippines) will hold “Beat Diabetes with a Knockout Punch,’’ an information campaign set on July 24, at Festival Mall Alabang’s second level Carousel Court.
Founded in 1990 by a group of physicians, the Diabetes Center Philippines is one of the leading diabetes education organizations that educates the public about the disease and teach diabetics how to live with it using the team approach to diabetes care.
At ‘’Beat Diabetes with a Knockout Punch,’’ the group will offer free diabetes screening for mall goers from 8 to 10 a.m; as well as free consultations with endocrinologists and work-out sessions at 10:15 am and 1:30 pm.
There will also be talks and demos on diabetes facts, exercise, diet, and medication from endocrinologists and other experts in the field of diabetes care and prevention. Speakers include Dr. Augusto Litonjua, president of Diabetes Center Philippines; Dr. Juan Carlos Miranda, president of the Philippine chapter of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists; Dr. Nemensio Nicodemus of the Philippine Society of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism; and Dr. Rima Tan, president of Diabetes Philippines.
