Star Cinema shares an early Christmas treat as the box-office movie “The Super Parental Guardians,” starring Phenomenal Star Vice Ganda and King of Primetime Coco Martin, hits the cinemas in key cities worldwide via TFC@theMovies starting this week, promising to create its own record overseas.
The record-breaking comedy film directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal earned Php 75 million on its opening day in the Philippines, making it the Filipino film with the highest opening day gross of all time. To date, it has earned Php 150 million in just less than a week. Movie fans overseas are also excited to see the film.
The clamor is not only for the on-screen reunion of Vice Ganda and Martin but also of the family-oriented theme. “The Super Parental Guardians” tells the story of Arci (Vice Ganda) and Paco (Coco Martin) who were forced to live under one roof to take care of Megan (Awra Briguela) and Ernie (Onyok Pineda). The sudden twist of events transpires after they make a promise to Sarah (Matet de Leon), Paco’s sister and Arci’s best friend – that they will look after her children in case something happens to her.
Vice Ganda and Martin’s roles are not something new for the two blockbuster stars since they are real-life guardians for the people around them.
Vice Ganda serves as the ‘mother figure’ to his comedian friends and colleagues, while Martin is the head of his family and the big brother of his co-actors.
“Gustong-gusto kong sine-share ang experience ko, kung anong natutunan ko para huwag na sila madapa bago nila harapin, para if ever na ma-encounter nila iyon sa buhay nila, alam nila ang gagawin nila,” explained Martin.
Proof of Vice Ganda and Martin’s being real-life guardians is their working relationships with child stars Briguela and Pineda, whom they also worked with in the ABS-CBN TV series “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.”
“Parang nagkaroon kami ng kaniya-kaniyang gina-guide,” said Martin about working with the child stars. “Katulad ni Awra, alam ko kay Vice iyan, e. Hindi talaga namin pinapabayaan ang isa’t isa.”
Meantime, Vice Ganda admired the potential of these children, especially Briguela whom he works with most of the time.
“Magaling siyang talaga,” Vice Ganda said about Briguela. “Magaling ang batang ito, kasi handa – maraming laman ang utak niya.”
Joining the wacky cast of “The Super Parental Guardians” are Kiray Celis, Assunta de Rossi, MC, and Lassy, directed by Bb. Joyce Bernal.
