A growing mind and soul has to be complemented by a healthy growing body. And this is how USANA’s social responsibility arm True Health Foundation supported the education and values-formation programs of Cornerstone, a joint educational initiative of a joint initiative of Couples for Christ (CFC), ANCOP, the Ateneo Center for Educational Development (ACED) and the Department of Education (DepEd).
In a course of eight weeks, True Health Foundation spearheaded a supplemental activity centering on providing meals, nutritional supplements and lectures about good health to less privileged children and their parents.
“We have long been collaborating with Cornerstone to further its vision of fostering a brighter future for our community through our children,” shares USANA Regional Manager for Philippines and Indonesia Aurora “Duday” Gaston. “And as Cornerstone fuels the kids’ intellectual and moral growth, we at USANA believe that all the learnings the kids will get will be put to good use if they have a healthy body and that is where we come in.”
Unlike the usual health programs, USANA’s True Health Foundation injected a more scientific approach to helping the children as it monitored and reviewed the kids’ health progression during the course of the eight-week period. And the results of the program were evident, especially for the parents.
“Malaking bagay din itong ganito kasi maski papano, nadadagdagan din ang kanilang resistensiya,” shares Reza de Castro whose son Ralph is a participant to the program. “Napansin ko nga hyper na yung anak ko dati, mas hyper pa ngayon. Tapos maaga na siya gumigising para pumasok at mukhang mas ganado.”
Aside from providing the healthcare support to the children, some parents see this as a much-needed help given their situation. According to Ma. Maricel Mata, this program doesn’t just help the child but also the parents too. “Napakalaking bagay na may tumutulong kasi para sa akin, napupunan yung mga bagay na di ko kayang ibigay.”
“This is what we aspire to achieve and we are happy to be on the right track,” added Gaston. “We are honored to be of help to our community and we see this as a long-term commitment and with Cornerstone, we will help build a stronger and brighter future for everyone one kid at a time.”
