ABS-CBN dominated the Gandingan Awards, the 11th UP Los Banos Isko’t Iska’s Multimedia Awards, by bagging 35 awards for its multi-platform programs.
Organized by the University of the Philippines-Los Baños, The Gandingan Awards aims “to encourage the production and airing of developmental radio and TV programs for the benefit of every Filipino.”
One of the big winners is DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 which was hailed as the Best Development-Oriented AM Station. Aside from winning the top award for radio, it also took home other awards which are Most Development-Oriented AM Program for “Failon Ngayon sa DZMM” and a Special Citation for Most Development-Oriented Radio Drama for “Maalaala Mo Kaya sa DZMM’s” Bandana episode.
Kapamilya news personalities who also earned Gawad Gandingan’s approval include Ted Failon who won the Best AM Program Host, Atom Araullo who was named Best Public Service Program Host), Karen Davila who was awarded with the Gandingan ng Kabuhayan award, and Boy Abunda who bagged the Best Talk Show Host for “The Bottomline”.
Some Kapamilya shows also won awards which are “Umagang Kay Ganda” for Best Development-Oriented Morning Show, “Matanglawin” which bagged the Most Development-Oriented Environment Program and Most Development-Oriented Educational Program awards, “My Puhunan” for Most Development-Oriented Livelihood Program, “The Bottomline” for Most Development-Oriented Talk Show, and “MMK” which bagged the Most Development-Oriented Drama Program award and a Special Citation for Most Development-Oriented Gender Sensitive Program.
ABS-CBN TVplus’ original production, “Team YeY!,” which airs on the exclusive all-day children’s channel YeY!, won its first two awards since it premiered in 2016. The show was named as the Most Development-Oriented Children’s Program, while hosts Sam Shoaf, AJ Urquia, Hannah Vito, Luke Alford, Mitch Naco, and Raven Cajuguiran were hailed as Best Children’s Program Hosts.
Knowledge Channel’s “MathDali,” hosted by Robi Domingo, Igi Boy Flores, Vic Robinson, and twins Joj and Jai Agpangan, was honored as UP CommBroadSoc’s Choice for Most Development-Oriented Educational TV Program, while “ASAP” emerged as the Most Development-Oriented Musical Program.
Meantime, ABS-CBN Regional’s various station programs and personalities collected the most number of awards, winning 15, including Most Development-Oriented Morning Show for ABS-CBN Baguio’s “Naimbag Nga Morning, Kapamilya”, Best Morning Show Hosts to ABS-CBN Baguio’s Micaella Ilao and Dorothy Clasara, Gandingan ng Kabataan Award to ABS-CBN Bacolod’s Kurt Soberano, Charmaine Deatras, Carmela Arcolas-Gamboa and Agnes Chang, Gandingan ng Kabuhayan Award to ABS-CBN Bacolod’s Kurt Soberano, Charmaine Deatras, Carmela Arcolas-Gamboa and Agnes Chang, Most Development-Oriented Livelihood Program for ABS-CBN Bacolod’s “Mag-TV Na, Amiga”,Most Development-Oriented Magazine Program for ABS-CBN Davao’s “Mag-TV Na, Mag Negosyo ‘Ta”, and Best Magazine Program Hosts to Onnie Alfaro and Benjamin “Lady Bam” Petilos, Jr. of ABS-CBN Davao’s “Mag-TV Na, Mag-Negosyo Ta!”.
Completing ABS-CBN Regional’s list of wins are Most Development-Oriented Educational Program given to ABS-CBN CDO’s “Mag-TV Na, Asenso Ta”, Gandingan ng Edukasyon to ABS-CBN Cagayan de Oro’s Margaret Velasquez, Most Development-Oriented News Story for TV Patrol Northern Mindanao’s “The School of White Kulamani”, Most Development-Oriented Youth Program for ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao’s “Arangkada”, Best Field Reporter to ABS-CBN Northern Mindanao’s PJ Dela Pena, Most Development-Oriented News Program for TV Patrol Southern Tagalog, Best News Anchor to TV Patrol Southern Tagalog’s Val Balita, and Most Development-Oriented TV Plug for ABS-CBN Batangas’ “Tuition”.
Three of ABS-CBN News online’s stories also garnered recognition including the Most Development-Oriented News Article for “Teachers Give Shelter to Students from Remote Villages in La Union”, Most Development-Oriented Online Feature Article for “Giving Back: Former Dishwasher Maid Now Bring Hope to Poor Kids”, and a Special Citation for Best Photography/Photo Story for “Hope in Education: From K to 10, Now Two More Years”.
These awards continue to inspire ABS-CBN to produce programs, share stories, and provide public service through its different platforms, with the aim of serving every Filipino no matter where they may be.
