S+A, ABS-CBN’s sports channel on free TV, will be airing LIVE the fourth installment of the SLAM Rising Stars Classic, featuring high school standouts such as UAAP Season 79 Juniors MVP Juan Gomez-De Liano and NCAA Season 92 Juniors MVP Troy Mallilin, this Sunday (March 26) at 6pm, with livestreaming on sports.abs-cbn.com.
SLAM Philippines, the local edition of the popular international basketball magazine, made the announcement in a presscon last March 18 at the Resorts World Manila, attended by players like San Beda’s Germy Mahinay and Sam Abu-Hijleh, and NU’s John Lloyd Clemente, who will be showing scouts their skills in the all-star game to be held at the Gatorade Hoops Center in Mandaluyong City.
ABS-CBN Integrated Sports head Dino Laurena and SLAM Philippines managing editor Miguel Rocha expressed excitement as they partner again to showcase the talent of young Filipino basketball players.
“We are more than happy for more hoops action to be airing on S+A, and what’s even better is the fact that these kids may grow up to be the superstars of future generations and we would like to be there every step of the way,” said Laurena.
“The partnership synergy is perfect because S+A handles the UAAP and the NCAA, and the fanbase is there. We all know that the high school area of basketball in the Philippines is still growing and we at SLAM Philippines feel it’s the right partnership to boost it,” added Rocha.
Earlier this month, S+A partnered with the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC), the official grassroots program of the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) for the airing of the NBTC Finals and All-Star games. The San Beda Red Cubs took home the title in the NBTC’s Division 1, by beating the SHS-Ateneo De Cebu Magis Eagles, while Assumption Montessori of Cagayan De Oro reigned supreme in Division 2 opposite St. Jude College (Cavite). The 10th year of the NBTC involved 627 high school teams from 62 cities.
S+A continues with its goal to tell the story of the Filipino athlete’s journey to greatness. Don’t miss being a witness to the future of Philippine basketball at the SLAM Rising Stars Classic featuring the country’s best high school hoopsters on Sunday (March 26) LIVE at 6pm with livestreaming on sports.abs-cbn.com.
