A new generation of Filipino kids will have the chance to know and love the movies their parents grew up watching as ABS-CBN TVplus’ YeY channel airs digitally restored and remastered children’s movies on its Kidsine movie block all Sundays of November at 5 PM.
To launch YeY’s latest offering, a special screening of digitally remastered and restored children’s movie “Cedie” was held last Sunday, November 5, at the ABS-CBN Theater of KidZania Manila. The movie was formally reintroduced to an audience of children who were beneficiaries of ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya’s past Tulong Center efforts, along with the three main original cast members and hosts of YeY’s all-kids show “Team YeY.”
Released in 1996, “Cedie” is about a young boy who discovers he’s the sole heir to an inheritance from his grandfather when his father dies. He and his mother travel to England to meet his strict, snobbish grandfather who is determined to make an aristocrat out of him. But as they get closer to him, it’s the boy who imparts valuable lessons to his grandfather.
It was a memorable reunion for lead stars Tom Taus, who played the titular character Cedie, Cannes Best Actress Jaclyn Jose, and seasoned actor Ronaldo Valdez.
“This Children’s Month, we want kids of today to be able to watch and enjoy these locally-produced movies that Filipinos grew up watching,” YeY channel head Danie Sedilla-Cruz said.
Aside from “Cedie,” digitally restored and remastered movies “Sarah, ang Munting Prinsesa,” “Magic Temple,” and “Kokey” will also be shown throughout the month.
“Sarah, Ang Munting Prinsesa,” which starred Camille Prats and Angelica Panganiban, is about a little girl who is sent to a boarding school while her father is away on duty. She quickly makes friends with everyone from her classmates to the school helpers only to get shunned when her father goes missing. However, Sarah remains optimistic and kind, even as she begins to lose hope of her father’s return.
Three teenage boys played by former child stars Junell Hernando, Jason Salcedo, and Marc Solis, go on a quest to save the world from evil forces in “Magic Temple.” Along their journey, they learned the value of camaraderie and faith in oneself, as they face personal challenges and defeat their enemies.
Meanwhile, two children adopt an alien who got lost in space in “Kokey.” They managed to keep him a secret from their parents, even as Kokey helps their business thrive and their family earn income. When Kokey starts getting homesick, the children are then faced with a dilemma how to tell their parents the truth, and how to help Kokey get home safe. The movie starred a young Carlo Aquino.
Catch YeY channel’s “KidSine” movie block every Sunday at 5pm, only on ABS-CBN TVplus’ all-kids channel YeY.
The restoration of the movies “Cedie,” “Sarah, ang Munting Prinsesa,” “Magic Temple,” and “Kokey,” are part of ABS-CBN Film Restoration’s Sagip Pelikula campaign, which aims to preserve Philippine cinematic legacy by locally restoring classic Filipino films and making it available to the general public in different platforms.
