In December of 2016, BEMAC Electric Transportation Philippines once again partnered with a local government unit to jointly promote cleaner, forward-thinking transportation solutions. The Municipality of Mendez-Nuñez in Cavite signed with BEMAC a memorandum of understanding that will allow the LGU to utilize two units of electric tricycles (e-trikes) for sixty days. The agreement was signed by BEMAC Vice-President Yvonne Palomar-Castro and Municipal Mayor Atty. Fredderick Vida.
Located adjacent to Tagaytay, the Municipality of Mendez-Nuñez has 24 barangays with a population of about 30,000. The municipality intends to use BEMAC’s e-trikes for a planned shuttle service. The LGU has dubbed the program “MENDEZ Electric Vehicle Shuttle Service” or “Mendez E-kot Service”. This service is expected to be of benefit to the municipality’s senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and students.
The provided e-trikes are BEMAC’s championed 68VM units – Japanese designed and Filipino made vehicles that have undergone rigorous testing and have met Japanese standards for performance and safety. Winning the favor of many LGU projects as well as a bid by the Department of Energy, the 68VM has appeared in many various environments; from urban Manila to the island of Boracay, BEMAC’s e-trike has proven capable of traversing a variety of terrains. The slopes of Cavite in Mendez-Nuñez may soon add another notch to the 68VM’s belt.
As with all partnerships BEMAC undertakes, aside from providing the e-trikes, they will also provide technical assistance and maintenance for the units. Qualified personnel as representatives of the Mendez-Nuñez LGU will also be trained on the operation and troubleshooting of the e-trikes. The mutually beneficial nature of the agreement will allow both parties to acquire more knowledge to further the mission of transitioning to cleaner, more sustainable transportation methods. The municipality has set a long-term goal of possibly transitioning all conventional tricycles into electric ones in the future.
