Manila Water recently held a ceremonial groundbreaking for its Emergency Reservoir Project at the Sto. Rosario Elementary School in Barangay Sto. Rosario-Kanluran, Pateros. The simple ceremony signals the commencement of the construction of the 50-cubic-meter underground reservoir, intended to serve as a potable water source in evacuation centers in the aftermath of disasters and calamities.

Seen in photo preparing for the lowering of the time capsule are (from left): Elmer Mangoba, Barangay Chairman, Sto. Rosario-Kanluran; Pateros Mayor Miguel “Ike” Ponce; Gen. Joe Campo, Deputy for Planning, Office of the Assistant General Manager for Planning, Metropolitan Development Authority (MMDA); Ma. LigayaGepollo, Principal, Sto. Rosario Elementary School; and GeodinoCarpio, Chief Operating Officer, Manila Water Operations.

The emergency reservoirs are designed to provide 5,000 evacuees with potable water up to three (3) days, within which the rehabilitation of damaged water lines are expected to be completed. In Pateros, aside from Sto. Rosario Elementary School, reservoirs will also be installed in Pateros Elementary School in Barangay San Pedro and Masikap Covered Court in Barangay Sta. Ana. Manila Water aims to construct these emergency reservoirs in 22 cities and municipalities within Metro Manila’s East Zone and the Province of Rizal in its commitment to assure water service reliability even during times of calamities such as earthquakes and flooding.
