More than a thousand SM employees volunteered to support the Department of Education’s (DepEd) 2017 Brigada Eskwela. Proving that the bayanihan sprit is very much alive, the employee volunteers from SM Prime and its Business Units all over the country cleaned up public elementary school buildings in their respective communities last Saturday, May 20. The volunteers shared their time to help prepare the school buildings for the opening of classes. The day was spent painting walls, chairs, and desks – with some even doing murals and other art works for the schools.

Elena Bautista Horn, Vice President for Corporate Affairs of SM Prime said that the SM Prime’s employee volunteerism program is a manifestation of its commitment to nurture among their employees the spirit of volunteerism through community service.

“We believe that everyone in the company can contribute in helping making life a little better for the people in the communities we serve. No effort is too small to make a difference. Through volunteerism, we aim to provide our employees with a venue for sharing their talents and passion. Volunteerism provides our employees a hands-on perspective on the good that they can accomplish. ” Horn noted.

In 2016, SM volunteers cleaned up a total of 57 public elementary schools. For this year, 61 schools were repainted.

SM Prime’s volunteerism program encourages community service among its employees to support SM Cares programs. SM Cares, a division of SM Foundation, collaborates with communities and organizations that promote positive change. Its programs focus on people and the community, environmental sustainability, disaster resilience and green campaigns.

SM Prime is one of the largest integrated property developers in Southeast Asia that offers innovative and sustainable lifestyle cities with the development of malls, residences, offices, hotels and convention centers.
