At the age of twelve, Dane Hipolito got his start at songwriting because of a school project. Half a decade later, he released a self-produced album of all acoustic love songs – a writing style that carried over to his debut single “Hiwaga”, which came out in 2015, propelling him to be MYX’s Spotlight Artist of the Month, and put him on various media outlets’ top local independent artist lists.
In 2017, he collaborated with Clara Benin to create “Plastic Bag”, which led them to a nomination for Collaboration of the Year at the 2017 WishFM Awards. It was also here that his succeeding single entitled “Krayola” garnered nominations for Folk Performance of the Year, and Folk Song of the Year.
In line with a musical rebirth towards a more urban sound driven by groove, lush vocal harmonies, and themed narratives, Manila-based songwriter and music producer Dane Hipolito is launching his newest single. In collaboration with one of Manila’s leading female artists, Keiko Necesario, “Slide” – a track within a mellow subgenre of electronic neosoul – uses provocative language to represent the innocent nature of intellectual conversation, challenging the trend of innuendo-laden lyrics.
