Following its premiere with Don’t Bore Us last November 4, Melbourne Quartet Just About Done has released the final part of their video trilogy, in the form of ‘Peacemaker’.
Vocalist Samantha McGee explains of both the song’s origin and the visual conclusion: “Lyrically, ‘Peacemaker’ stemmed from growing up with faith, and now coming to the realization that I don’t necessarily connect with that anymore. The line ‘wondering how to break the noose’, was initially written as ‘news’, referring to other people finding out about my decision, but the former seemed more appropriate. Peacemaker’s video reveals the final part of the narrative, with an emotional ending explaining the reasoning to the previous events – it also reveals that the storyline has been depicted in reverse, as the first two videos may have suggested. Linking in with the lyrics, Part 3 has shown the beginning of losing faith and questioning what they thought they knew all along.”

Beginning life as a school band, Just About Done reveal that their ambitions lie in bringing the art back into music, with McGee emphasizing that they want to be part of a community that keeps that at its core: “Listening to albums from start to finish; attaching music to memories; really being there in that point in time, listening and watching a performance, rather than watching through a screen. We know it’s possible.”
You may recognize the name of the quartet, who are rounded off by Jack Farnfield and Daniel Sunday on Guitar, Joe Considine on Bass and Michael March on Drums, from the Blink 182 track.
‘I Am Getting By’, produced by Christopher Vernon, with additional engineering by Declan White and Liam Guinane, marks Just About Done’s first foray into a wholly conceptual release, of which the band states: “The tracks are about normal aspects of life, which always come as a shock to those who live it. The lyrics were written about very specific circumstances, but can be interpreted very differently for everyone, which is why we hold these songs very close to our hearts.”
Stating that they sound like Violent Soho if you “throw a female singer on top”, they borrow from early Paramore and The Story So Far to deliver atmosphere and attitude, in three hard-hitting pop-punk doses that brim with enthusiasm and potential.
