Loveteams MayWard, consisting of Maymay Entrata and Edward Barber, and McLisse, composed of McCoy de Leon and Elisse Joson, debut as graphic novel characters in ABS-CBN Publishing’s double-cover mangaserye “He’s My Oppastar” and “Vlogger Girl Problems,” respectively.
Take a unique look into two of today’s rising loveteams as they are cartooned by manga artists in a series of books that puts a spin on traditional ways of storytelling. Manga is a style of Japanese comics and graphic novels for readers of all ages.
Much like in real life, Maymay is the ever energetic Macy in “He’s My Oppastar,” who is a solid fangirl of KPop group Miniluv. Macy is suddenly both overwhelmed with excitement and confusion when her new classmate Eddie (Edward) looks suspiciously like her “oppa” Red, lead vocalist of Miniluv. She is now more than determined to uncover the nonchalant student’s secrets. Is he her oppa superstar?
Meanwhile in “Vlogger Girl Problems,” Elisse is depicted as up and coming influencer Elaine who blogs about beauty and lifestyle. One day changes her life when she is held up for her camera, and a mysterious guy (McCoy) rescues her. As she gets into trouble more often, the same person shows up and saves her. Naming him “Mr. Blue,” Elaine also notices glimpses of him in all her videos. She then sets on an online/offline quest to find her knight in shining armor.
Both manga stories are connected and in the same setting. Find out how the lives of Macy, Eddie, Elaine, and Mr. Blue intertwine in the coming books.
MayWard’s “He’s My Oppastar” and McLisse’s “Vlogger Girl Problems” books 1 and 2 are available in National Book Store and Powerbooks outlets nationwide for only P185 each.
