New Online Store “Toy Canteen” Offers Hyperrealistic Handmade Miniature Pinoy Food Sculptures

Toy Canteen, a freshly opened online store that offers impressively delicious and realistic handmade food sculptures, goes against the saying “Do not play with your food“. Although their food looks mouth watering, they were not made for human consumption but instead, for toy photography, to stand as accessories for toys and for miniature collectors. They have an impressive collection of Filipino food from Tocilog, Bangus, Isaw, Fishball, Sisig to the Philippine’s staple dish, Tuyo. They also get various requests of different dishes from around the world like Nachos, Tacos, Spaghetti, Pizza, and Ramen. The food sculptures are so tiny that the size reference is a Philippine Peso coin. It wouldn’t take much space to collect all of them.

Virginia Pozon, the Artist behind Toy Canteen, considers her creations as a form of art and expression. She noticed the lack of “pinoy food” toy accessories in the market and started making her own. “I posted my creation online and I started getting a lot of inquiries and requests. Being a toy collector myself, I make sure to keep my artwork affordable so that more people could enjoy playing with them. It makes me happy to see the smiles of my customers when they see the food for the first time. I also love the fact that they send me pictures of their toys posing with the food. This inspires me to make more varieties and complete requests. As soon as someone orders, I carefully sculpt and paint each piece especially for them.“, Virginia says.

The Toy Canteen opened their online store this June 2018 and launched their products during the Toycon x Poplife Fan Experience last June 18-20 2018. Most of their customers are comprised of Toy Photographers and Toy collectors from Kids to Working adults.
